REVIEW - THE VETERAN by Xavier Neal

Igor is cringing as the GM takes another piece of his hide as they stand in the waiting room of the hospital. It was an accident! He had tripped over the power cord of the blow-up castle and in trying to extract his three-year-old daughter he bumped into the woman dressed as a princess.

When he enters the hospital room he finds his daughter on the bed with her fingers running through the woman's hair and the woman explaining that she is the new nanny not her new mom. Igor knows its wrong but he really needs a nanny so he doesn't refute her statement. Now he just needs to make her want to stay when her memory returns.

I loved this book! It is very well written and the characters are fully developed and relatable. Igor is a pro Hockey player and the single father of an amazing three-year-old daughter Bella. Joey is trained in child care and nannied around the world with an amazing resume... she also has dissociative amnesia and has no clue why she would have accepted a job with a single father... a gorgeous hockey player.

This book is an action-packed and smoking-hot read! Igor is a Russian-American hockey player so if you aren't familiar with hockey lingo it helps to read through the glossary at the front of the book.

I really found Joey's condition intriguing and how she tried to keep her lost memories digitalized to try to piece them back together. Igor takes advantage of Joey's memory loss, but when he and his daughter fall deep in love with her he is terrified of losing her when her memory returns.

I couldn't put this book down once I started. I love a hockey romance and we are totally immersed from the locker room, family to game time. Highly recommend!
