REVIEW - DANGEROUS SILENCE by Audrey Rush

Being the son of a mob boss he knew that he would be the enforcer one day, but his training unexpectedly started at age 7 after being ganged up and severely beaten by a man.  By age 10 he was almost better than his mentor.  He was taught to never care about anyone because they could be taken away from you in a second.  So he couldn't comprehend what his father and mentor asked of him when he was 15.

Demi arrived home to find her dad dying.  He made her promise she would marry Axe.  She was 18 and not marrying anyone so she lied to give him peace.  He died shortly after.  Only to see Axe kill 2 men after her dad's funeral and then lock her in a cage in his full-on torture room.

Audrey Rush kept my attention from the beginning of the book.  The characters and violence were real.  I was like watching a train wreck - I couldn't look away no matter how twisted or violent it was.  Demi is an innocent 18-year-old who had no idea what her father had actually done before retirement.   Axe was taught from an early age and got off on torturing before killing.  Think Dexter meets Criminal Minds meets The Godfather meets Law & Order SVU and multiply it by 10.  I did enjoy the book as it is very well written and the characters are believable.

If you have an aversion to reading violence against women, torture and mutilation or highly graphic sexual content then this is not the book for you, but I liked the book.
