Jessica is trying to keep her human and shifter lives separate in order to keep the danger away from her best friend Liz's family and holding down the fort at the bookstore since Liz is on maternity leave.
Guilty about her feelings for Danny and what she had done to Jack. She felt like she had no control. Especially over Suri who just wants to kill Jack since Suri hated vampires and was determined to override Jessica's hold on her so Suri can have Danny permanently.
Jack has become more distant in his jealousy and Jessica not understanding his aversion to witches.
This is book four in the series and they have to be read in order to understand how Jessica came involved in the shifter world full of vampires, werewolves and witches. She still can't wrap her mind around all that his happened in the months she has arrived in the small seaside town of Redcliffe.
This book is action-packed and full of angst as she has an internal fight with her familiar who wants to take control over the wolf pack. Jessica is still trying to understand her sexual attraction to not only Jack, but his twin brother Danny, and their vampire friend Mason. All while trying to keep Liz safe.
