REVIEW - THE HERO by Eve M Riley

Sadie had just gotten home from her job as a coder at the tech company, Williams Security, when her stepfather, Jake, told her that her mom was spending the night at her aunt's.

He has always given her the creeps, and she generally ignored his comments because that was all there was to it. But, as she bent over the oven for their dinner, she could have sworn that he touched her butt. And when he leered at her, saying that since her mom was out for the night, they could have 'some fun', she knew she had to move out.

She has always given her mom the money that she made to help make ends meet, especially since Jake seemed more interested in smoking weed than actually working. But she was scared that now that she got a well-paying job, they would be kicked out or forced to pay more rent for the slum-like apartment they lived in in Queens.

Desperate to leave, Sadie packed some essentials in her ratty backpack and told Jake they were out of milk and needed to run to the store. When her boss told her that Jake had been hanging out at work, wanting money, she was luckily able to have her advance forwarded to another account, since her check had been sent to a joint account shared with her mom and Jake.

Luckily, she found a hostel not far from work to stay at for a few days until she figured out something else.

She was surprised and a bit nervous when one of the bosses called her into the conference room the next day. He wanted to see what she thought of her new job and when he found out she was looking for somewhere to stay, he excitedly told her that she could stay in his brownstone while he was away in Korea.

The only catch... one of her other bosses would be her roommate. James Royce, the man she couldn't even look in the eyes he was so gorgeous. And she was even more nervous when she figured out why Des was so insistent on her being there.

WOW! I loved this book! It is very well written and the characters are fully developed and relatable. Although this book can be read as a standalone, this series circles around recurring characters, and I feel you will enjoy the book more with the other character backgrounds.

This story starts off with a very drunk James in a very depressive state of mind that could have gone horrifically wrong. Both James and Sadie have secrets, but moving into Des and Alex's place was just what they both needed.

This book is action-packed, very emotional, with some seriously screwed-up situations that they are trying to survive. I love all the books in this series, but James and Sadie's story might be my favorite.

This story addresses several triggering issues, including attempted suicide and abuse, so beware if that is an issue for you. Highly recommend.
