REVIEW - Déjà Blue by Robert W Walker

FBI Agent Rae Murphy Kiyakawa isn't happy that she is being sent to West Virginia alone to help the local police catch a serial killer who takes a hammer and nails to his victims as they sleep. She barely survived her last case in Phoenix when her visions sent through the handheld CRAWL device back to Quantico weren't enough to save the life of her friend Gene Kelly and her visions hadn't foreseen her own personal danger.

Now she is in West Virginia working with a deputy with an attitude of her being a psychic investigator. But Rae's leads are limited as all of the evidence from these grizzly murders is being held in a bank vault keeping her from getting a physical read by touching the items.

This case comes to a surprising conclusion as she fights with the most unlikely suspect for her life. But I don't think Rae has seen the last of the Hammerhead Killer.

I loved this book! It is very well written and the characters are fully developed and relatable. This book can be read as a standalone novel, but they are intended to be read in order so you get the full background into the PSI Unit who get the cases that BAU can't solve. Unlike book 1, Rae is on this case alone and only dealing with her associates in Quantico through the CRAWL device designed by a boy genius.

Rae is half Japanese and half Irish drawing from Buddism and Wikkan folklore as both her deceased parents appear with their advice for not only her cases, but her rebellious teenage daughter. Fighting against the prejudices of being a woman in a man's world and those who think her gift is a joke.

If you like reading psychological thrillers you will love this series as Rae goes after the most heinous killers imaginable. Highly recommend!
