REVIEW - OF ICE AND VILLIANS by Veronica Lancet

It had been 174 days since the last time Marlowe killed. There was nothing like the thrill of the hunt, the planning and execution. Everything was planned to the last detail.

He was trying, really, really, trying to stop, and thought that seeking therapy would help with his murderous tendencies. Well, he obviously couldn't tell the therapist the truth, but still... if he had to listen to this woman drone on and on a second longer, she would be his next victim.

He has been meeting with her for the past three months for OCD, but this was the last time. He would have to find another way. As he waited for the car to heat up, he checked his watch, calculating this distance from home and how much time he would have to watch TV before his bedtime.

OCD controls his life. Every moment of his life is scheduled and the slightest derail brings on anxiety. Which is why he thought therapy would help. Planning to the last detail and seeing the light fade from his victim's eyes had always brought him peace and joy, until the last one, where he acted impulsively and now he questioned everything.

It wasn't the man obviously assaulting the young woman that caught his attention as he drove by the park on his way to upstate New York. No, it was the way the woman was dressed. Or rather that she was not dressed for the frigid snowy conditions. She was wearing a shirt, jeans and a pair of slides.

Going against his normal tendency, he pulled over to help. He has strict rules on killing. He doesn't kill women, but maybe he can make an exception.

I loved this book! It is very well written and the characters are fully developed and relatable. Warning - this book does not have an HEA and leaves you with a cliffhanger.

Marlowe is an anti-social control freak who enjoys torturing his victims. He thought the homeless woman he saved at the park would be a perfect victim only he couldn't do it. He couldn't kill her so instead he gave her a job. And every day became even more fascinating.

This book is action-packed, dark, twisted and suspenseful, but I found Marlowe to be quite hilarious. Minnie is not who she says she is. She may be homeless, but she is hiding a lot from Marlowe. This smoking-hot romance takes on a paranormal twist and is told from Marlowe's POV. This book leaves you with a huge NOOOO cliffhanger, but it is totally worth it and can't wait to read book two.

This is the first time I have read anything by Veronica Lancet and I loved these characters and the storyline kept me turning the pages. Highly recommend!
