REVIEW - DRAWN IDENTITY by Mave Hathaway

Thane tried to avoid everyone as he grabbed something to eat before heading to his next class. Not that anyone would talk to him. He was the only one in this magic school who had no magic.

A fact that his siren mother was always lamenting about. Why did she have to have a son? Everyone knew there was no such thing as a male siren. He has borne her disappointment his whole life.

So he did what he always had, he pulled out his small notebook and started drawing. His attention was drawn to the girls at another table, a pixie with her hands flying about as she talked excitedly.

The desk in front of him was empty until the pixie arrived. The instructor had balanced chairs to the ceiling with random items on them for their assignment. After giving them time, he told them he wanted them to find someone in the class to critique their work.

The pixie, Demela, was in front of him before he could blink. And then she decided that he was going to be her friend.

I loved this book! It is very well written and the characters are fully developed and relatable. This book is unlike The Dodsfell Chapter trilogy as it is a fun, although still dark fantasy. Pixies and other magical creatures versus dragons and shifters.

Thane has been ostracized his whole life, especially by his mother, for not having any magical powers. But, sitting with him under a tree at break, Demela watches him as he draws and realizes that he just doesn't know what his magical power is.

This book is hilarious, in a dark-humor kind of way. Think a darker Harry Potter, but with fantasy creatures instead of wizards. He wants to use his magic for justice, but he is the son of a siren. And his new friend is a pixie who delights in trouble, so the punishment must fit the crime.
This book is action-packed, although a very short read. If you like a cute fantasy with a dark vengeful twist, you will love this book. I do wish it had been a longer story, but hopefully Thane and Demela will have more situations that need redirecting.
Highly recommend.
