Sophie always snuck in right before the starting bell sitting on the top row nearest the exit. He was poetry in motion and she was addicted. The boxing club drew her like a moth to a flame every third Friday of the month - Amateur Night - when she got to drool over one of the owners as he took to the mat. Sweat and energy flowed from his every pore.
And drooling from afar is all she will ever have. She sees the type of women he is drawn to and those women aren't elementary school teachers with wild red hair with a mind of its own. He pounded his gloves with his opponent when the match ended his eyes already searching through the mass of gorgeous women on the sidelines. She didn't know why she stayed for this part, but it was always her reality check... men like that weren't for her.
Dean and his partner wanted to give back to the community that supported their boxing gym BOXX and show kids there were ways to work off steam without getting into trouble. As he is discussing the after-school program his attention is drawn to the redhead teacher. Although he knows they have never met there is something familiar about her.
I loved this book! It is very well written and the characters are fully developed and relatable. Sophie may love watching boxing and especially the hot owner of the local boxing gym, but dating an athlete is not in her playbook. Especially when she knows she is totally out of his league.
Dean is a gorgeous boxer with confidence pouring from him and Sophie can't understand what he sees in her. She is NOTHING like the women she has seen him with and no matter how much he tries tell her otherwise she knows she will never measure up. And when circumstances take an unexpected turn her insecurities come at her full speed and she is determined not the have her heart broken.
This book is action-packed and steamy hot. Dean has an uphill battle getting through Sophie's self-image issues especially when her past nemesis is determined to remind her. Just when Sophie thinks she is good enough a bomb lands in their lap that has Sophie wondering if love is worth it. Highly recommend.
