REVIEW - THE HEART WE GUARD by S Cole

Greer hasn't slept in thirty hours, and after four surgeries, the chief surgeon tells her she needs to stay and cover for another surgeon. So when the man is wheeled in with internal bleeding from a gunshot wound, she immediately heads for surgery.

She is determined to save the life of the young man wearing the MC cut and give him the chance her younger brother didn't get when he bled out in their foster family's front yard.

But when the chief surgeon tells her that she needs to take a break to catch up on her charts after telling her he can't have a break. She loses it, especially when she finds out that they denied qualifying the boy she just operated on the hardship fund to pay for his medical. Now she was suspended because she refused to do surgeries while half asleep.

Butcher, president of the Colorado chapter of the Iron Outlaws, and Lev Zakharov, son of the Bratva kingpin, have been determined to take them down so he can gain access to the property where their clubhouse is located.

The atmosphere at the clubhouse is tense as none of the members are happy with how he has handled Atom, their enforcer, marrying his daughter. He has always put the club before everything, including his own family and now his relationship with Atom and Ember is more rocky than ever.

Butcher has just picked the lock on the door where Lev and his men are hiding when shots start ringing out around them. The next thing he knows is Wraith standing over him, and Smoke is peeling the van away, heading to the hospital despite his protests.

I loved this story! It is very well written and the characters are fully developed and relatable. This series is intended to be read in order as the characters are all members of the Colorado chapter of the Iron Outlaws and there is an underlying storyline throughout the series.

Butcher always put club life before anything and that included his marriage. Having slept with one too many club girls, his wife left and took their daughter with her. Then he further screws up his relationship with his daughter by fighting with his enforcer who went against rule one - no one was to go near his daughter.

This book is action-packed and full of danger with a few surprising twists. Butcher has put his desires ahead of everything, but Greer is making him wish to be a better man. I love this series and Butcher was surprisingly redeemable. I'm glad he got his HEA. Highly recommend!
