REVIEW - THE DARK CROWN by Immortality My Darlin

King Preston fell for the promises of Niko and his followers and now he and Michael have been taken as prisoners and bound with toxic iron.  Niko plans for his nephew Nicholas to claim the throne and sacrifice Queen Sadie for his cause.  But Lacy, Blaire and Sadie escape their guards and Sadie brings forth an earthquake help with their escape. Unfortunately, Blaire didn't survive the arrows that pierced her as she protected her Queen.

Niko and his siblings had been trained their whole life for this cause by their father.  Nathan infiltrated the palace and had moved up in the royal guard and befriended the prince.  This friendship gave him the high honor of being the hand of the king when Prince Preston turned 21.  But, Nathan's treachery has a twist - Nathan is known to the Crown as Phillip Montgomery.  Hiding his true family name and connection.

Nadia's job was to get impregnated by the current king and bear a child of royal blood.  At the age of 5 Niko had made sure that Nadia's son, Nicholas met the silver haired girl born to the virgin and soon they were inseparable.  His plans were falling into place because this girl was the prophecy.

Cave Nicholai had been sought as shelter many generations ago by Niko's ancestors not realizing what was within.  Not just being an overhang of rocks as first noted, but a massive cave full of treasures and scrolls of knowledge.  Knowledge that Niko realized if known to be in existence would have been destroyed, but Niko not only kept them secret, but studied them extensively learning that those with blood of the rulers could summon the gods, but if done right so could a commoner.  This gave Niko the proof he needed that he was meant for greatness when he was able to summon the demon god, Sebastian.

It had been little over a week since news of the bastard heir and the lands were in chaos.  Niko had moved them into the palace and anyone not taking a knee to the prince regent was executed.  Immortal blood was forced down Nicholas' throat until his uncle deemed there was enough to kill his human body.  Now he had a cold heart and the voices in his head were driving him to madness.  His uncle kept him under guard until was needed to execute their plans.

I have several warnings about this book.  One) this is book two of the Purity Lost in Vain series and The Gift that was Promised needs to be read first!  Two) this are NOT short reads...plan to settle in for a long journey that is well worth the ride.  Three) cliffhanger.

We learned in book one that Sadie was the prophesy of the gift that was promised and in this book we find not only the gift, but what was promised.  This story is woven perfectly.  It is action-packed and full of intrigue and suspense.  I absolutely loved these characters and the author drew me in so that I felt part of their story.

We meet so many more characters throughout this captivating story and their strength and determination flow from the pages.  This is the ultimate story of good versus evil and fighting for your beliefs, but without losing yourself to the darkness.  This book is full of danger and passion.  These relationships are smoking hot as Clementine, Elaine, and Sable also find their mates as everyone comes together for the upcoming battle.

This book is full of gods, fairies, trolls, and other magical beings.  If you liked Lord of the Rings and fantasy fiction you are going to love this book and series!  But, this story has not come to it's conclusion and I can't wait until the final battle!

I highly recommend this read.  You won't be sorry!
