Jackie was six years old, sitting and drawing his knees as close to his body as he could to block the ice-cold wind that was tearing through his threadbare clothes. She was talking to a man through the window of a shiny car as he handed her a bag, and then drove away.

Daisy is exhausted as she feeds another load of sheets in the industrial presser in The Royal Kensington Hotel. Even working sometimes 10 hours a day at this minimum wage job barely covered her rent, and her thin frame shows her malnutrition and run-down existence.
On her walk home, she stopped by the graveyard and, gripping the locket around her throat, she promised her mother that somehow she would get a space, instead of being ashes in a cardboard box on her mantle.
But when she arrived home, there was a notice on her door of an immediate increase in her rent. She was barely able to pay the current amount.
The next day at work, she was trying to warm her hands when she saw the fancy linen emerald envelope propped up. She was intending to turn it in to the Lost and Found when the lettering flashed at her to OPEN ME.
Letting curiosity take over, she broke the wax seal and read that a single night could change the rest of her life. No signature. Just a web address.
On her way home, she went directly to the library and sat down at a computer and typed in the website address...
I loved this book! It is very well written and the characters are fully developed and relatable. This is a standalone novel, but I highly suggest you read the first books in the series first as the characters are involved in Jack and Daisy's story.
Major trigger warning! Jackie's life became a child's nightmare at the age of six and although the abuse is inferred, there is no doubt the nightmare that he survived.

This dark fairytale retelling is action-packed and very dark. The beanstalk represents the entitled rich and Jack has his own way of destroying the giants who think nothing can touch their deviant lives.
Wipe your mind of any parts of the original fairytales, because Lydia Michaels is getting ready to blow your mind. This book is spicy hot, but full of danger and prepare your Kleenex. If you like dark romance, you will love this book!
