Andi can feel his stare. Tough Enough gym is full of sweaty men, but she has worked alongside the owner, Mack, for eleven years. He took her in off the streets at fifteen and taught her how to defend herself. Helped her get emancipated at sixteen from the foster system that almost ended her.
This stare was different. She has never seen him in the gym before, but this gorgeous man has fighter ingrained in his posture. Then she realizes that he looks familiar. She felt his eyes then, too, as she sang in the annual karaoke contest at her favorite bar.
Then another memory surfaces, an unsanctioned fight years ago. This man was definitely a heavyweight contender.
Lucas can't take his eyes off the woman on the upper deck of the boxing gym owned by the famed boxing trainer Mack Weaver. He doesn't need a woman, he needs a trainer and Mack is the best. But still he can't take his eyes off the mesmerizing woman.
But he doesn't put his best foot forward with her when Mack calls her over and tells him that she will be the one to evaluate him up to see what he's got.
I LOVED THIS BOOK! It is very well written and the characters are fully developed and relatable. This is not a standalone novel! It is book one in a VERY intense trilogy that will keep you in suspense with each roadblock thrown their way.
Someone is trying to keep Andi silent about why she left the foster system and the fallout that followed. They're determined to keep her silent, even if that means going after everyone she comes in contact with and especially those whom she loves.
This book is action-packed from page one and will keep you turning the pages as you are led further into this suspenseful dangerous mystery. Every layer gets more dangerous as they realize that the man she finally puts a name to is only part of the machine trying to control the narrative by making her look unstable and an unreliable witness.
This is the first book I have read by this author and wow! It is a gripping romantic suspense thriller that will keep you wondering what can come next. I highly suggest that you listen to her songs during the karaoke competition as they fit the storyline perfectly and show you the depth of Andi's pain. Highly recommend and can't wait to read the next book in this series.
