As Taryn says goodbye to her friend she wonders if she will ever see her again. It is the year 2100 and life has been hard for everyone since Earth's resources couldn't meet the demand.
She was a nurse and the free clinic she worked at in San Francisco was often the only thing keeping the poor and frail alive. They never knew when they would have to grab what they could to relocate in order to keep their much needed medical supplies from being stolen.
She was taking a month off for a much needed rest and thinking about her future. And to wait for the lottery drawing... The winning number agrees to give five years to live on the Planet Ratner with a Dragon shifter.
Blake is rushing around since his brother, his Alpha, has only given him two hours to prepare for a mission on Earth. As the leader of the Protection and Welfare branch of their government, he is the best one to negotiate the transfer of the woman chosen for the lottery.
He steps into the portal and when his indicator light turns red he tries to escape, memories of his mate dying five years earlier in a portal, when all turns black.
Taryn is walking on the beach when a hole opens spitting out a gorgeous man. She had heard of portals, but this was the first time she had actually seen one and she definitely wasn't expecting the gorgeous man it spit out. When he opens his eyes he has no clue who he is or why he was there.
I so loved this book! It is very well written and the characters are fully developed and relatable. Taryn is a nurse who has spent her life helping those who need medical care and decides to enter the interplanetary lottery to mate with a dragon shifter not only escaping an abusive ex but to learn about all she could about dragon shifters.
Blake had never had any issues escorting a human woman back to Ratner, but when he realizes the angel, his fated mate, from the beach is the winner of the lottery he forces himself to do his duty. His brother, being the Alpha of their planet, decides if the newest woman will be his mate and Blake will fight him to his death to keep that from happening.
This is my first time reading anything written by Bree Westland and I will definitely be reading more in the future. I look forward to reading the stories of Blake's sibling and although Avery is not on my favorite's list due to his actions I understand even he will get an HEA.
Highly recommend!
