REVIEW - THE HEART OF A PAINTER by Shani Haim

Erin finally got up the nerve to leave her toxic relationship.  Instead of learning from her mother's mistake, she had lived with a man for the last three years who did nothing but demean and abuse her.  She has just accepted a position as TA to a famous artist and it was time to finally start a new life.

As she is leaving her ex's home to stay with her best friend a tall man is walking behind her.  Who walks around the neighborhood streets late at night.  So she pulls out her pepper spray and tells him to back off.

Thomas is back in Boston after spending the last fifteen years in Russia as a commission painter.  He has just accepted a professor position and is at a local art gallery at a speaking engagement when he notices the woman who almost blinded him last night in the crowd.  Trying to walk off jet lag, she thought he was a thug and now she is disrupting his speech.

Erin had arrived at the speaking engagement hoping to introduce herself to her new boss in an informal setting and realized he is the man from the night before.  He may be a famous artist and drop-dead gorgeous, but none of that mattered when he opened his mouth.  Just her luck her new boss was a grade-A jerk!

This book is very well written and the characters are fully developed.  Erin and Thomas both have baggage, but Erin really struggles with Thomas's moods after being in an abusive relationship.  Especially when he won't open up to her.  Thomas has bottled up his feelings his whole life, but Erin is determined to help him deal with his insecurities.
