REVIEW - WICKED by Adaline Winters

Just as she hears the trumpets sounding announcing the annual arrival of Charming looking for his mysterious princess the mirror leaning on the wall says "Who is the fairest in all the land?...Daisy is the fairest". She rolls her eyes at the scratchy voice coming from the cracked mirror telling him that when he declares anyone and everyone the fairest that he is losing any credibility he may have garnered. His looks at her in confusion and reaffirms that she is the fairest in the land.

Daphne groans at him mixing her name, once again, as her best friend and half-sister Gwyneth bursts into the room in excitement telling her they need to get ready as the Duke has commanded all maidens to appear in the town hall. Daphne smirks as she no longer holds that title thanks to Hansel behind the Gingerbread House.

The Prince's annual search is a joke as the man has no intention of finding the mysterious woman who the glass slipper really belongs to. He plans to pick one of the maidens to travel with him to The Hallows and sleep with her announcing the next morning that she was not the princess he had been searching for. Suspiciously none of the women ever returned to Far, Far Away.

When her sister's foot magically slips into the glass slipper she demands to know how after several years of not fitting that this year her sister's foot is the perfect fit. She refuses to let the Charming take her sister to The Hallows without her.

When they arrive in The Hallows they can't believe how shiny everyone is and is taken aback when she meets the eyes of the most gorgeous smiling man with mesmerizing green eyes when the man next to him looks her way, regardless of the scowl on his face, she realizes they are perfect twins. The Prince scoffs and tells her she would be good to avoid the Stirling brothers as they would be more than she could handle. Looking down his nose at her.

I absolutely loved this retelling of Cinderella...or is it? I dare you to catch all of the fairytales/myths that are mentioned in just the first chapter of this book but they are intertwined so perfectly in the story and Daphne is a delight with her clumsiness that leaves behind catastrophe wherever she goes.

This story is very well written and told from Daphne's POV, but you have no doubt about the thoughts of the secondary characters. All of the characters, animals/inanimate/creatures/people, are fully developed and relatable. This storyline follows Daphne trying to save her sister from Charming, but Daphne's story revolves around the Stirling brothers an intriguing story about these Knights and their quest.

Each sister is entwined in separate fairytale stories with others woven throughout with surprising twists on the stories that we know. This book is action-packed and will keep you laughing at Daphne's clumsiness and the calamity that follows. Oh, and the floof...LOL. And Charming is well..no Prince let alone being "charming" and the Stirling brothers make this story smoking hot.

I do have to warn that this story leaves us with a cliffhanger and it is major and will lead this story in a surprising direction. I can't wait to see what happens next! Highly recommend!
