Stephanie is laid up in the hospital after falling off a ladder getting Christmas decorations out of the Community Center's attic space. All things considered, her only having a fractured ankle and sprained shoulder was a blessing.
But now she had to convince the mayor that she had the perfect replacement to do her job as the Community Center Director until she was able to return. She not only wanted someone she could trust, but also didn't want the mayor to think her replacement was doing a better job - putting her out of a job.
So she offered the perfect solution to save the mayor the work of looking for a replacement. She would have her sister take the position until she could return.
Except, she may have left out a few details when asking Marla to fill in for her.
I loved this book! It is very well written and the characters are fully developed and relatable. This series is meant to be read in order, so if you haven't read MY, WHAT A BIG HOSE YOU HAVE, you need to read it first for a better enjoyment of this small town and especially the rivalry between the police and fire department.
Marla is a retired kindergarten teacher who dropped everything to help her sister out after surgery. Plump pillows, cook and other household errands - not run a community center and plan a Christmas in July event.
Hank is the police chief who is finally ready to settle down again and doesn't understand what he is doing wrong in obtaining Marla's interest.
This rom-com will keep you laughing as the police and fire departments try to outdo each other with pranks, and Marla tries her best not to murder her sister and the police chief. And the Harris sisters are a hoot. Highly recommend!
