Synopsis:

Book one opens with our primary female character Theresa, attending the celebration of life for a woman who helped raise her.  Her childhood bestie, larger than life, Jimmy Falcone’s house is where the celebration is being held.  It is with great trepidation that Theresa opens the door to the mansion.

After that, the story becomes second chance romance, where Theresa resists Jimmy, resists him seeing what’s happened to her since he and his family moved away.  The story goes on to have Jimmy realize that leaving Theresa set her up a hellish life and now he wants to fix it.  Gaining her trust back and making her life right becomes his number one goal, while negotiating with a new threat to the family business that ultimately endangers Theresa.

Jimmy’s story carries on in book two with his daughter Maggie.

What is the sub-genre and trope?  Did your characters lead you to this genre or was that decided before the story began?

Prearranged marriage/second change romance/

I wrote the Jimmy character first, the sub-genre, mafia, came afterwards 😊

Are you more character or plot driven?

Honestly every series begins with an idea, a glimpse of a story, and then it is character driven.

I know from previous interviews that characters take on a life of their own.  Were any of the characters in this series determined to take their own direction instead of where you initially wanted them to go?

Al, Jimmy's best friend takes his own direction setting up the story line for book 2.

Are any of the male POVs based on anyone you know?

Not really, Jimmy probably more than any other male POV is based on my dream guy, my fantasy.  He checks all my fantasy boxes, lol. 😊

Are any of the female POVs based on anyone you know?

Elements of Theresa’s character are based on women I know from my school days.

Also, circumstances that draw out who she is are also based on circumstances based on childhood experiences.

Was there any one character/scene that was harder to write about than the other?

The biggest challenge I had was writing the romance scenes between Jimmy and Theresa, while having a young teenage daughter.

Keeping it realistic to a point without losing any heat.

What is your favorite book in the series?

Book 1, only because Jimmy is my favorite male POV.

Series question - Who is your favorite couple and why did you decide on their dynamics?

Dean and Maggie, they are raised to be together, the princess and her new king. 😊

Although, I did start book 3 and I really like our new couple, Dean’s brother Drew, and Maggie’s bestie.

How do you get inside these character’s heads to find their perfect HEA?

What does he need from her, and what does she need from him?

Filling in what she needs the most, gives her what she’s been missing.

Allowing him to move into his role as an alpha leader in his business and home life checks all the boxes for Dean.

What scene in this book/series sticks out the most for you?  Why?

The treehouse scenes in both books, Maggie’s 13th birthday.

The scene at the university where Theresa's rival gets put in his place by Jimmy and an Olympian coach.

Bobby, her gay best friend is my fav secondary character in both books 😊

Series - Were any of the books harder to write than others?

I suspect book 3 will be.

Book 2 matching up the timeline to book one as there was a good 1-2 year write cycle time between them.

How did you come up with the title for your book and series?

I thought about the main premise of book one, second chance romance, was Jimmy learning Theresa, and he does it very, very well.  His to Learn made sense to me.

Book 2 If I share how I came up with that name, it would be a spoiler alert for those who haven’t read it. Let’s just say that Jimmy has a frank discussion with his soon to be son-in-law. 😊

If you met these characters in real life would you get along?

Probably not, they are pretty intense, lol!

Series question – Did you know in advance that you were going to write this as a series or did one of the characters in book one demand their own story?

I originally wrote book one as a stand-alone.

One day I got to reading the reviews and many of them said they hoped I’d write Maggie’s story next.

That is what motivated me to write His to Train.

If your book/series were made into a movie, which actors do you see as playing your characters?

Whoever plays Jimmy would have to be tall, athletic, he had a football scholarship to university.  A blond Italian, they are unusual.  He is simply, gorgeous. 😊

For Theresa, someone with an amazing butt, tiny, athletic, fierce, yet soft.  Maybe fans of these books would like to play and answer this question themselves 😊

Can you give us a hint as to what we can expect next?  Whether a new book and series or a sequel to an existing series?  Can you share a small tease?

Skylar is on a brief hiatus while her alter ego Rogue London is smokin busy.

But I would say in the new year, expect a soon to be released from Skylar West who has a few projects in the works.

Skylar is partnering up with another author for a new series coming out next year.  Its gonna be a wild ride.

Blurb:

Operating in secret behind the backs of the oldest mafia families, a new threat is uncovered that endangers everyone's lives. As Dean DeLuca unravels the mystery, will he be able to save his new princess?

As the heir to the Deluca empire, I should be focused on the mafia business still left in Philadelphia. Instead, from the moment I met her, there has been no room in my thoughts for anything but Maggie. Princess of the Falcone family, she is too innocent for the life I lead, a light in the darkness that draws a man in.
She should be safe, cherished, protected, but her family's enemies don't respect the sacred treasure that she is. I don't care what I have to do or who I have to destroy, I will keep her safe.

Publisher Note: This steamy mafia romance contains some graphic scenes and a theme of power exchange.
