REVIEW - THE THIEF by Jessika Klide

D'Artagnan Dugan can hear the emotion in his sister Cathy's voice over the SAT phone.  He is at a base camp that doesn't technically exist and is going to miss her college graduation regardless of how much he wants to be there for her.  Their step-monster Tiara is a real piece of work but is giving a graduation party and hinting at a gift she says Cathy will love she tells him skeptically.

Rapunzel Robinson and the other employees working at the boutique are called into a meeting with the owner.  Unsurprisingly, he tells them he has sold the boutique since it is a dying business but he assured them that the new owner would be keeping everyone and the store would be staying open.

Two days later a woman with a high society attitude and a college girl walk through the doors.  The woman, Tiara, informs them that she purchased the boutique for her stepdaughter Cathy as a graduation gift.  Cathy looks at her gratefully when she has Tiara ushered to a waiting area to enjoy some champagne while she shows her the ropes.

One year later...

D's family attorney hand delivers him a letter from his father.  When he reads the contents, he looks up asking his father's friend to keep their meeting between themselves.   He just learned that not only had his father set up a trust for himself and his sister, but he had a deadline to find a wife.  Something that his stepmother has hidden from him since his father died two years ago.  If he doesn't marry before his thirtieth birthday which is just weeks away, his stepmother gets full control of a billion-dollar empire.

Zella was rushing to get to the Children's Charity Auction Fashion Show where Cathy's wedding gown creation would be put up for auction.  This auction would give Cathy the recognition she needed to break away from The Wicked Queen as Tiara had been dubbed and finally be put in her place.

As D puts the stoned woman in the backseat of the Uber he realizes that his big plan for tonight is in the car driving away taking away his chance to meet the terms of his father’s will.  As he watches another car finds the last space in the parking garage and a gorgeous woman steps out.  After just losing his fake fiancĂ©e he watches her enter the elevator and wonders...

Already claustrophobic getting in an elevator and just finding out that she was now modeling the gown being auctioned she tries not to let her fear turn into an all-out panic attack when the elevator takes a drop and then stops leaving her in darkness.

The man on the other side of the elevator door asks her to sing a song to keep her calm as he tries to wedge open the door.  While she sings she draws a picture in her mind to match the sexy baritone voice talking to her knowing that he will never match up to her imagination.

Her dream man would be taller than her - 6'4" would be perfect.  Dark hair, dark eyes, ruggedly handsome...muscular, a man's man, not a model, and when he sees her he falls instantly in love, because well it's her fantasy, might as well go all out.

When he pries the door open and drops down beside her she stares at him in shock because her imagination could have never dreamt up the gorgeous man in front of her.  And then she notices his Navy dress whites - a real-life hero...a Navy Seal.

Imagine the shocked looks on their faces when they find out that she is his sister's trusted friend "Zella" and he is her boss's big brother "Bubba".

I loved this modern retelling of a fairy tale!  The book grabs your attention from page one and I couldn't put it down.  It is so well written that I felt part of the story.  The characters are amazing and so relatable.

Tiara is truly a wicked witch and I loved how D'Artagnan put her in her place.  His and Zella's plan worked out perfectly.  Zella and D are amazing together.  From the second he climbs into the elevator with her their passion ignited the pages.  This book is how fairy tales are meant to be.  Highly recommend this book!
