Synopsis:

KC Poitras is a master of women's fiction. "The Only Man" is the sequel of, " You Taught Me What It Feels Like to Fall in Love."

The love story between Isabelle and Stacy continues even in the midst of tragedy and relocation. To add insult to injury an evil arises from Isabelle's past that may cost them everything. While something worse is brewing inside of her. How much can one family take.

This is a mature, midlife, romance at its core, steeped in the tradition of Pamela Kelley, Grace Palmer, and Kristin Hannah.

In KC Poitras’ novel, “You Taught Me What it Feels Like to Fall in Love,” we met Isabell and Stacy.

Two people who took a chance on each other later in life and so far, have had no regrets. We believe that as we age life should get easier. One should get to retire and live happily ever after with their spouse. There’s nothing wrong with having everything you want and finally enjoying life.

Unfortunately, in the case of Isabelle and Stacy, this doesn’t ring true. Returning to their life in Florida, they leave Isabelle’s daughter Hope in North Carolina to run their popular B&B. Their dream of having a home in Nantucket was so close to happening. They seem to have the perfect life, sound business ventures, and a harmonious blended family.

But that all changes the night tragedy strikes with a fire that takes more than just Violet’s ranch. Not knowing what else to do to try and hold the family together while steeped in grief, Stacy and Isabelle split ways, but hopefully only temporarily.

Stacy goes to their Florida home and Isabelle heads back to North Carolina to run the B&B that is booked solid for the next year. But when a guest has a tempting offer, Isabelle questions her loyalty to Stacy.

While in Florida they discover evil lives right next-door, wreaking havoc on an already fragile family.

In the tradition of the first novel, this sequel, “The Only Man,” continues to show how one can overcome life’s challenges while discovering what you’re made of.

Does true love really exist?

And if true love really does exist, can it survive unprecedented grief, long distance and adulterous temptation.

What is the sub-genre and trope?  Did your characters lead you to this genre or was that decided before the story began?

Sub-genre is Romantic suspense.

Trope is later in life romance. The story is based around a lot of what happened to me “later in life” so the character’s led me to this genre 😃

Are you more character or plot driven?

Plot driven

With many main and secondary characters, how do you keep them separated in your mind?  Do you have a story/vision board above your workspace?

It’s funny, when I’m writing a story it’s easy to keep them separated, I take notes, build their character’s and visualize their style, looks, etc.

After the novel is complete and I start another, that’s when the focus becomes more difficult, especially, if I’m using different characters.

I must remind myself; I’m no longer writing the last book I finished.

I know from previous interviews that characters take on a life of their own.  Were any of the characters in this series determined to take their own direction instead of where you initially wanted them to go?

Yes, they did in both books in the series.

I had it all mapped out and as I wrote the characters seem to take on their own opinions on where they’d go.

I found myself thinking, no that character wouldn’t do this or that… weird I know lol.

Are any of the male POVs based on anyone you know?

Yes, very much so.

Are any of the female POVs based on anyone you know?

Yes, a lot of scenes played out with a wonderful group of friends and even some of the evil characters were based on people I’ve known.

Was there any one character/scene that was harder to write about than the other?

Yes, a scene where a family of characters lost their lives, as well as some backstory of abuse.

What is your favorite book in the series?

The Only Man – by far. To be honest, it’s much better written, it’s gripping, crosses a lot of emotional flags.

You’ve Taught Me What It Feels Like to Fall in Love, was the first book in this series. I’ve worked on it a lot, had a lot of scamming done in the process of publishing this first book.

I do intend to pull it eventually and rewrite it! But, it’s a great story line and full of emotions, if you can get passed some mechanical issues of the book.

I know that we aren’t supposed to have “favorites” as far as our children, but seriously, who’s your favorite character and why?

Stacy is my favorite one!

Because he’s real, he’s Isabelle’s hero and showed her how a woman should be treated. He gave her the world.

Series - Who is your favorite couple and why did you decide on their dynamics?

Isabelle & Stacy – Something very similar happened to me, and I met the man of my dreams, later in life.

I honestly felt I would be alone for the rest of my life after a twenty-year marriage split up suddenly. Then came “Stacy”

How do you get inside these character’s heads to find their perfect HEA?

Imagination. I feel everyone dreams of HEA and the “Fairytale”. I’ve got a great imagination, probably because of the fact I always dreamed of what life should be like as a little girl. Life wasn’t fair, so I lived in a cocoon of dreams, books that took me far away, and hopes.

What scene in this book/series sticks out the most for you?  Why?

The scene after a horrific loss. Stacy and Isabelle, split for a while, one in their FL home and the other at the B&B in NC they own. Both trying to greave in their own way.

Isabelle is faced with the temptation of the sexual attraction between herself and a guest at the B&B, who makes his desires crystal clear. She must decide if she wants this or if she wants to save her marriage.

It sticks out because I feel way too often in real life, infidelity is treated so indifferent, in my world.

Series - Were any of the books harder to write than others?

My first book, I’d never written before and it showed. LOL

This question is if you write in MULTIPLE POVs not just the hero and heroine - I love the multiple POVs in a book.  It’s not just the hero and heroine, but we get inside the heads of multiple characters throughout this series.  I feel that it gives the story further depth.  Do you think you will write another book or series following this multiple POV outline? (if applicable)

Absolutely! I don’t think I could even write without my readers knowing other characters POV.

What’s the point of having a main character in the story if we don’t know their POV.

How long did it take you to write this book/series?

The first in the series took about 6 months, book 2, took about 2 months (that doesn’t include, edit’s etc. first draft, 2 month)

How did you come up with the title for your book and series?

My significant other said, “You taught me what it feels like to fall in love.” When we were fairly new into our relationship, it literally gave me chills and an out of body experience.

You’re My Day One, was something I had heard on a show or something (can’t remember) but I knew how that person felt, because, he is my day one, always.

If you met these characters in real life would you get along?

Yes, I would definitely.

Series – Did you know in advance that you were going to write this as a series or did one of the characters in book one demand their own story?

I knew in advance. I wanted to start with their struggles and getting over mountains, then continue with book two with what their doing now and how or if they followed their dreams, book 3 will be the end.

If your book/series were made into a movie, which actors do you see as playing your characters?

Stacy would be played by someone that looks like Ian Ziering for sure.

Isabelle - Scarlett Johansson

Can you give us a hint as to what we can expect next?  Whether a new book and series or a sequel to an existing series?  Can you share a small tease?

Skin Deep launches Nov. 26!

A riveting and stunning story of love, tragedy, loss, survival, and beating the odds. Parker is a PGA pro golfer; Olivia is a sought-after fashion model. When their worlds collide unexpectedly, their desire courses through them as their love blossoms. But tragedy strikes, their lives are tipped upside down. Parker blames himself. Olivia tries to heal while trying to save Parker from his guilt.

On the surface they have it all, money, looks, and success. But after the horrific accident, will their love survive? Can their trust in each other be salvaged? Will they be able look at each other the same? Parker and Olivia are forced to fight for their happily ever after. They quickly find out it might not be so obtainable.

BIO:

K.C Poitras is a mother, grandmother, and author from North Port, Florida. K.C was born and raised in Virginia and moved to Florida seven years ago. Where she feels at peace by the sea. Before she turned to writing, K.C worked for over thirty years in the customer service industry. For many years K.C suffered from crippling anxiety, and the thought of writing among other things, overwhelmed her.

Then she met Eric, her very own "Day One" and everything changed. Inspired by her true-life love story, K.C wanted to share the knowledge that it is never too late to start over and learn that a person is worthy of love. Age is not a hindrance to a happily-ever-after and it does not matter what struggles have been faced, there is always time for a fresh start. Many of the scenes in K.C.'s series are inspired by events that happened in her life, and her story comes from the heart. Her fiancé, Eric, is her biggest fan, and without his unflagging support she would never have started the crazy and wonderful journey to becoming an author. K.C.'s debut novel, You Taught Me What It Feels like to Fall in Love is the first book in her Day One series. K.C.'s stories are wonderful beach read romances with all the feel of Elin Hildebrand, or Kristen Hannah.

When she is not writing, K.C loves riding her beachcomber with Eric, and her friends, or tackling a new and challenging recipe in the kitchen. She loves to cook, host, and entertain and would be lost without her friends and neighbors. Her house is always one step away from a new look thanks to K.C.'s love of decorating and remodeling. K.C will continue to work on her series with the trials, love and joys in her life providing constant muses for new ideas.
