Dex could tell with one glance that his new neighbor was trouble. She is wearing a tight tank top with a martini glass on the front and leggings that show off all her curves. She is gorgeous and laughing and flirting with the movers. He was surprised they were getting any work done.
The last thing he needed was more woman drama and vowed to keep his distance. He was raising his thirteen-year-old daughter alone since her mother never wanted a child and he never knew which Riley he was going to run into. His daughter went from silent and sullen, to happy and talkative or bursting into tears at a drop of a hat. He felt like he was living with a wild animal and didn't know whether to approach and hug her or run.
Moving was hard work even if she had movers doing all the heavy lifting and flirting with a few muscular men did help, but Nora had loved her new house as soon as she saw it. Now that her best friends were all married her apartment hadn't been as fun since both Everly and Hazel no longer lived in the building.
When one of the movers called her ma'am she did a double take...because really...did he just call her ma'am? A idea popped in her mind for an article on women navigating the different stages of aging, but all her boss wanted was for her to write about sex and the more clickable the better.
When she walked outside to see how much was left in the moving truck the man next door stepped out glancing at her briefly on his way to his car. No smile, no nod, no small wave. Nothing. And she preferred refined men in expensive suits so why did the unfriendly muscular man next door in grungy jeans and arms covered in tattoos intrigue her?
Wow! It seems like forever waiting for Nora's story, but it was well worth the wait!!! This story is very well written and the characters are fully developed and relatable. Although this book can be read as a standalone I highly recommend that you start from the beginning of this series to get totally emersed in Nora, her best friends and the Husband Gang. These best friends have a tight Circle of Trust and their personalities are so different.
Nora had a very popular blog about women's issues and when she was approached by a publisher after they saw some of her racier posts and offered her a job she was so excited, but now all they want are columns about sex and by the time the editors were finished she barely recognized her words.
Nora doesn't believe in relationships. She had thought she was in love at one time and with her father cheating on her mom and her mom treating marriage as a monetary transaction she should have seen the warning signs. Now she was up front with anyone she goes out with...no relationships. As soon as they start wanting more she stops seeing them and moves on.
Dex is a single dad and has no interest in relationships. His daughter is the most important thing in this life and he couldn't take a chance that she would be hurt if he dated and it didn't work out. He was happy being owner of a tattoo shop and was lucky to have the loving support of his family.
This book is action-packed and smoking hot! Nora was the most confident of the Dirty Martini Running Club as they were dubbed by the bartender at their favorite martini bar. I love these girls' friendship and how they have each other's back no questions asked. And the Husband Club just gets funnier through each book in the series.
This was such a perfect ending to a laugh-out-loud series. Nora and Dex are perfect and I totally love Riley. It was nice spending time as she navigated her own life as a teenager.
I highly recommend this book and series and basically ANYTHING wrote by Claire Kingsley. I am really sad saying goodbye to Everly, Hazel, Sophie, Nora and their amazing husbands and I so hope that Nora's brother Jensen gets his own story!
