REVIEW - WE SHALL NOT BOW by Adeline Winters

Luna starts climbing the spiral staircase of the tower that spans to the clouds determined to disrupt their plans. The Fae had lied twenty years ago about helping humans repair the damage to their atmosphere. Instead, they had started building terraforming towers capable of modifying the ecosystem and demanded that humans bow down before them.

When they refused it only took three bloody days that killed millions of humans before the Fae had successfully overthrown the human race. How do you fight a race that can't be killed with guns or bombs?

Waking up into slavery the world was divided... those who followed and The Resistance who refused to bow and were determined to destroy the towers that would give the Fae full access to life on Earth.

After she successfully plants the explosive that would slow down the Fae's completion of this tower she let Oliver and Nicola know that she was heading back down. Only to be surrounded by ten of the Fae Royal Guard when she reaches the ground. Before she destroys her com she yells for Oliver and Nicola to run. But she could already hear the struggles in the forest and then them being led to stand by her side.

She wakes to find herself chained to a seat in a dungeon with a man who looks like a Viking pirate version of The Rock watching her from the corner. Then the most gorgeous Fae she has ever seen enters the cell. Unlike most Royal Fae whose eyes are rimmed in purple, Adriel has midnight hair and eyes that are totally violet with a tattoo around his left eye.

He grabs her head covering to only to look at her in shock and appreciation. They had no idea that The Menace who was disrupting their plans was a woman. When she refuses to give him the answers about The Resistance's location he has someone grab Nicola and it only takes the threat of being sent to The Circus to make Nicola open her mouth. The Circus - the Fae-run human whorehouse where no human lasted long due to the Fae's dark and bloody tastes.

Before Nicola could give up their secrets Luna grabbed a knive and slit her throat and then went to hit the dial on her wrist. She would die before giving over the location, but Adriel sees her intent and has his guard Idris hold her down as the poison is removed. Adriels leaves her with the warning they would be back.

Shortly she is surprised to see Oliver sneaking into her cell to rescue her. Only to find out later that The Resistance and her best friend Oliver had sold her out.

I loved this book! It is very well written and the characters are fully developed and relatable. This is book one in The Kingdom of Shattered Crowns and Shadowed Dreams trilogy so do not expect an HEA. In fact, prepare yourself for several twists and a MAJOR cliffhanger.

Luna is determined to disrupt the Fae's plans to take full control of the Earth's ecosystem giving it full access for their Fae world. Adriel, the Prince of Shadows, is the Royal Fae that Luna is determined will not access her secrets... although she is finding that he is hiding secrets of his own.

This story is action-packed, full of danger and intrigue that will have you flipping the pages to find out what happens next. Luna is determined to bring down the Fae from the inside... Adriel is determined to get Luna to beg as he tempts her in her dreams.

This fantasy romance is on the dark side so beware if you have triggers with violence, but it is also smoking hot as Adriel pulls out all his Fae charm. Highly recommend and can't wait for book two!
