REVIEW - THE ONLY MAN by KC Poitras

Isabelle and her husband Stacy were the owners of The Winding Road Estate Bed & Breakfast in North Carolina.  The 1800 historical home had been featured in Southern Living after they renovated and opened the doors for business.

Isabelle's daughter from her first marriage and her husband currently ran the bed & breakfast as Isasabelle & Stacy's main home was located in Florida, but with their daughter being seven months pregnant they decided to spend some time and take some pressure off the couple.  It also gave them the opportunity to spend more time with Stacy's daughter and their granddaughter.

Then tragedy hit with a fire which destroyed their home and killed Stacy's daughter, husband and grandchild.  Isabelle had been feeling a distance between her and Stacy before the deaths, but now she felt them pulling even further apart.

This is a second-chance romance and even though it is well written and the characters are fully developed I had a hard time connecting.  I found the story to be very interesting and very suspenseful further into their story, but with it being written from a third-party perspective I had issues putting myself in the actual story.

I did have an issue with the authorities in Italy and their sharing of information with Stacy - it seemed very unrealistic and unprofessional.  And after Isabelle returned to Florida to surprise Stacy, I didn't understand how the staging fit in as no one knew Isabelle was on her way.

The story became very action-packed and full of danger in the last half of the book and you feel for both Isabelle and Stacy in their back luck circumstances.
