Rachel was hiding in the crawl space beneath the clubhouse. It was swept clean with some small sparkly lights and although a cramped place it was where she came to escape. And that's where King found her reading Tolkien.
Today was the wake of her best friend Carly. Carly had been five years older than her thirteen years, but they had formed a close bond since her mother had joined her step-dad at the Sinners' MC clubhouse. If the day wasn't emotional enough her mother had lost her temper and slapped the Prez's woman, King's mother. Her mother made the clubwhores look like nuns.
King was sixteen at the time and felt protective of the girl who didn't seem to have any friends. Carly had killed herself because her uncle had sexually abused her. They found this out listening to the conversation above them when one of his best friends Nyx pulled his father Bear aside. Nyx was not happy when told to leave it to the club to punish the pedophile.
Twenty-two years have passed since that time and Rachel was now a lawyer for the MC club and although she had promised Rex (King - not sure when he received club name Rex) they would be her only client, she found a loophole through the charities she founded.
But, so much has happened in those twenty-two years. Things that have turned Rachel into an ice queen...freezing everyone out...including Rex.
I absolutely loved this book! It is very well written and the characters are fully developed and relatable. I so love Rachel and Rex! I cried so hard for Rachel. The things that she suffered at the hands of others would break anyone else, but Rachel buried it deep and was determined to take control of her life, and to do that she became one of the best defense attorneys defending the worse clients. With her cold personality, power and money everyone kept out of her way.
But, Rex got his own tears. This gorgeous man would do anything for the ones he loves and wow. No matter how much it tore his heart out this man has made major sacrifices for Rachel and then his father. Although this is Rachel and Rex's story, there are many side stories and POVs about other members of the Sinners.
This book is packed full of emotion with many twists and turns. I was unable to put this book down once I began reading. This book is action-packed, full of danger and suspense from cover to cover. It is also steamy hot. I do have to warn that this book deals with sensitive subjects that may offend including pedophilia, rape, and violence.
Remember the multiple storylines? Well, we are left with multiple cliffhangers from multiple directions. We do get a HEA, but the story doesn't stop here. Rachel and Rex's lives have just become more dangerous.
This is the first time I've read anything by Serena Akeroyd, but I can't recommend her enough. You get to know these characters intimately and the multiple POVs (I believe there are 12 POVs in this story) bring you closer to these men and women of Sinners' MC club. I will definitely be going back to the beginning of this series!
