Synopsis:

In a race-through-space galactic mating contest with 500 sexed-up suitors, the only guys she wants are the three she can never trust. Rebel princess Kaia is the daughter of a tyrant who’s worshipped as a god by billions. A prison sentence she’ll kill to escape, since women like Kaia are worshipped in chains. And she’s just become the prize those 500 suitors will lie, seduce, and slaughter to possess in a ritual contest for her bed.

Kaia chooses the most dangerous possible mate in Zorin—a sexy, scourge-of-the-galaxy space pirate. Yet she’s seriously tempted by Dex, the imperial enforcer who’s Zorin’s ultimate nemesis…and his mouthwatering obsession. Kaia burns for both of them, but Dex and Zorin are lethal enemies. And the galaxy’s most powerful telepath, the mesmerizing lover who betrayed her and nearly destroyed her, is a major distraction for all three of them.

INTERSTELLAR ANGEL is a steamy enemies-to-lovers poly MMMF sci fi action romance with MM and reverse harem elements and Book 1 in the completed Astral Heat Romance Series.

Final book in trilogy available now!

What is the sub-genre and trope?  Did your characters lead you to this genre or was that decided before the story began?

I describe the series as steamy poly sci-fi action romance, sci-fi reverse harem, or X-rated queer space opera, take your pick!

And none of this was planned! I’m in the middle of a PhD program and wasn’t supposed to be writing at all right now. I didn’t even know reverse harem was a thing when I started. All I knew was my villains were turning into dark heroes and they were all REALLY into my heroine…AND each other!

Are you more character or plot driven?

Character-driven all the way, baby!

With many main and secondary characters, how do you keep them separated in your mind?  Do you have a story/vision board above your workspace?

My workspace is my iPhone wherever I happen to be, and my storyboard is inside my head.

I know from previous interviews that characters take on a life of their own.  Were any of the characters in this series determined to take their own direction instead of where you initially wanted them to go?

My scourge-of-the-galaxy space pirate was supposed to be the villain. Instead, inconveniently, my other males and the heroine all fell in love with the big guy.

Are any of the male POVs based on anyone you know?

My dark brooding telepath Ben Nero was inspired by Adam Driver, but I don’t know him personally, alas! Does that count?

Are any of the female POVs based on anyone you know?

My rebel princess/cyber samurai is the action heroine I wish I could be.

Was there any one character/scene that was harder to write about than the other?

My galaxy is ruled by an empire that crucifies men for prohibited passions.

Dex’s psycho dad was the empire’s most fanatical enforcer. So when Dex falls in love with both his mentor and his male best friend, he has a LOT of baggage on male-male attraction to overcome.

That was hard to write about, and I hope I treated the topic of internal homophobia with sensitivity.

What is your favorite book in the series?

RENEGADE ANGEL is Book 2, but can be read as a standalone, and it’s a scorching fast-burn. I’m kinda partial to that one!

I know that we aren’t supposed to have “favorites” as far as our children, but seriously, who’s your favorite character and why?

Zorin, my scourge-of-the-galaxy space pirate.

There’s an age gap, he’s the older guy/mentor, and he has a laid-back steady-eddie quality that’s relaxing to write when everyone around him has so much angst.

Series question - Who is your favorite couple and why did you decide on their dynamics?

Dex and Nero.

They were boyhood best friends from rival races, so there’s a friends-to-lovers angle that I explore in the MM prequel, ANTICIPATED ANGEL.

How do you get inside these character’s heads to find their perfect HEA?

I get to know them as I write them, so it gets easier as I go along.

What scene in this book/series sticks out the most for you?  Why?

The climax scene in ATOMIC ANGEL when Dex, Kaia, Nero & Zorin all finally come together is SMOKING!

It’s the hottest scene I’ve ever written.

Series - Were any of the books harder to write than others?

INTERSTELLAR ANGEL is a steamy slow burn, and the foreplay was agonizing to me. So that one was harder to write. 😊

This question is if you write in MULTIPLE POVs not just the hero and heroine - I love the multiple POVs in a book.  It’s not just the hero and heroine, but we get inside the heads of multiple characters throughout this series.  I feel that it gives the story further depth.  Do you think you will write another book or series following this multiple POV outline?

My poly romance is MMMF, so I have four POVs, which feels like a lot!

My next connected series keeps the multi-fun going.

How long did it take you to write this book/series?

A year-plus to write three books plus the novella.

How did you come up with the title for your book and (if applicable) series?

ATOMIC ANGEL is my favorite title, because nukes in space!

I have a nuclear background, and my heroine’s nickname is angel, so I really love this title.

If you met these characters in real life would you get along?

I’m a total introvert, so I’d probably be a little tongue-tied.

Series question – Did you know in advance that you were going to write this as a series or did one of the characters in book one demand their own story?

I had no idea I was writing a series. The entire experience has been an adventure!

If your book/series were made into a movie, which actors do you see as playing your characters?

Dex and Nero are totally inspired by the Kylo Ren/General Hux dynamic in the latest Star Wars trilogy, so I picture Adam Driver and a blond Domnhall Gleeson in those roles.

Can you give us a hint as to what we can expect next?  Whether a new book and series or a sequel to an existing series?  Can you share a small tease?

ANTICIPATED ANGEL is the Dex & Nero MM sci-fi novella prequel to the series, comes out April 1st, and is five-alarm fire HOT! Here’s a tiny snippet:

“Take this off for me. Take everything off. I’m going to make you climax hard enough to shift the orbit of a mid-sized planet.”
