Every girl with a brother grows up with one fundamental rule: his best friend is off limits. That’s one rule she longs to break when he crashes into her life.

Amelie Weston has been taking the safe path for as long as she can remember. Not disappointing her parents by pursuing the career she wants. And not pursuing the guy she’s been crushing on.

But she’s tired of being the good girl.

Her brother’s best friend is pushing her to stop being a people pleaser and open the bakery of her dreams. Little does he know he’s also at the top of the list of her heart’s greatest desires... and he’s making himself impossible to resist.

Levi Kingston fully intends to become a legend on the field as one of the best players ever. He must stay focused and work relentlessly toward his goal. He doesn’t have time for distractions... until he meets his best friend’s sister, and his well-laid plan is challenged.

Bad timing, responsibilities, and loyalty to her brother keep them apart. But the connection between them only grows stronger. Their feelings become impossible to ignore, and the fight against them is pointless.

Will they take a chance on love? Or waste an opportunity for long-awaited happiness?

What is the sub-genre and trope?  Did your characters lead you to this genre or was that decided before the story began?

New adult, brother’s best friend, sports romance.

My characters lead me to this genre. At times, I feel they do what they want anyway and I’m just here writing the report.

Are you more character or plot driven?

Definitely character driven, but I always keep in mind to follow the plot.

With many main and secondary characters, how do you keep them separated in your mind?  Do you have a story/vision board above your workspace?

I always focus on the main characters first, but I keep a balance with the secondary characters.

I jot notes on sheets of papers delineating the characters, their personality traits, physical traits, and such.

I know from previous interviews that characters take on a life of their own.  Were any of the characters in this series determined to take their own direction instead of where you initially wanted them to go?

Oh yes, it happens all the time. I am so used to my characters taking their own direction, nothing surprises me anymore.

Are any of the male POVs based on anyone you know?

Their best traits are always hubby inspired.

Are any of the female POVs based on anyone you know?

Not necessarily.

Was there any one character/scene that was harder to write about than the other?

In this book it was the breakup scene. I cried while typing it.

I know that we aren’t supposed to have “favorites” as far as our children, but seriously, who’s your favorite character and why?

At the moment, Levi Kingston. He’s freaking perfect. I said what I said.

How do you get inside these characters’ heads to find their perfect HEA?

They’re in my head all the time so after a while I get to know more about them, it’s a discovery process I absolutely love.

What scene in this book/series sticks out the most for you?  Why?

When she gives him a second chance. It’s such a pivotal scene. After all they went through, they realized they both made mistakes and are owning them and are willing to put in the work to do better from now on.

Trust is a paramount factor and the promise to do better because their love is worth it. They choose the other wholeheartedly.

How long did it take you to write this book?

Around a month.

How did you come up with the title for your book?

This is the first time I knew from the get-go the name of the book. It never happened before. Usually, I agonize over the titles.

If you met these characters in real life would you get along?

I’m pretty sure I’d befriend Amelie and we could sigh dreamily about Levi.

I’d be her best customer, cupcakes hello. And Mara, we’d be best friends in no time.

If your book was made into a movie, which actors do you see as playing your characters?

I’m debating between Cristopher Chace Crawford and Liam Hemsworth for Levi, and maybe Rosie Huntington-Whiteley for Amelie.

Can you give us a hint as to what we can expect next?  Whether a new book and series or a sequel to an existing series?  Can you share a small tease?

I’m planning on releasing a four-book series next year. I’m pretty excited as I’m going to dip my toes for the first time in dark romance. I’m absolutely obsessed with these morally gray characters and their world.
