REVIEW - DECEPTION by Senna Kincaid

Voices were drifting in and out. Beeping noises that wouldn't stop. A pinprick and then all went quiet. Six weeks ago her brother Archer disappeared and she hadn't gotten any closer to finding out what happened since she arrived in Guyana. It had been his first stop on the trip of a lifetime and her college graduation gift to him. Now she is overwhelmed with guilt that she bought the ticket to where he had gone missing.

Everleigh was exhausted from hiking in the jungle and after taking a shower went to the hotel restaurant and wondered why a town that was usually bustling with activity was suddenly deserted. And when a man with a gun tucked in his waistband sat at her table telling her she was sticking her nose in things that didn't concern her a chill traveled down her spine.

It didn't help when he gripped her by the arm and marched her up the street to the Town Hall full of men with machine guns. The man that approached her should be on the cover of a magazine not surrounded by an army and she was even more shocked when he spoke ... he was American. The next thing she knows she is being dragged to a line of SUVs being kidnapped.

Lucius had a mission and the nosy woman Santinto brought to him was a complication he didn’t need. Once his boss heard about an American asking questions he had no choice but to bring her to him. Looking at her he knew she wouldn't last very long. She was too innocent and had no business being there.

Julius deserved the hell he was living though and although he had ordered executions, cheated and betrayed, he hadn't crossed the line at killing an innocent yet and had no plans to start now. He almost had the information he needed to return home and didn't need to screw up now caring what happened to this woman.

I loved this book! It is very well written and the characters are fully developed and relatable. There are a few very nasty evil characters that I would hope to never come across in life. Although this book can be read as a standalone novel I highly recommend that you start at the beginning of this series as the characters are recurring and there are elements to Everleigh & Julius's story that weave through this series that will give you more context.

In Freya's story, she was on the run from the Irish mob, but Everleigh finds herself in a much more dangerous situation. I loved Everleigh. She was the perfect combination of courage and wimp. Charging into the unknown to find her brother, but then freezes when her person is threatened and has a panic attack hoping it will be over soon. And Julius is just full of surprises that I can't mention without spoilers.

This book is action-packed, full of danger and suspense, packed with surprises and smoking-hot chemistry. Highly recommend!
