But then reality slaps her in the face when her father offers who he thinks is Primo Maldonado the hand of his virgin daughter in marriage to join their mob families. While she is still reeling in shock from his betrayal, gunshots start raining down on them and as she falls to the ground after getting shot in the shoulder she watches her father leave her behind as he runs in the other direction.
Giovanni Maldonado wasn't supposed to be at the docks but was standing in for his oldest brother Primo. But it had been a setup. Bullets that were meant for Primo were surrounding him. As he turns to leave he notices that Lucia is lying on the ground. Her father has abandoned her without even a glance back, so he scoops her up and leaves the scene before the police arrive.
I loved this book. It is very well written and the characters are fully developed and relatable. Lucia grew up with an overbearing protective father. But it was more of a prison than anything else because he wasn't protecting her, but her virginity. To be sold to the highest bidder. While she had thought she was finally getting the opportunity to prove herself her father was willing to sell her into the Maldonado crime family. Now she has gone from one prison to another.
Giovanni was keeping her hidden so that she wouldn't implicate him in the fiasco in Miami. He is hoping that returning to Boston will keep her from the Feds and her father's enemies.
Primo gave control of the family business to Giovanni to not lose Bella. Giovanni who was taking their crime family legitimate... only to fall in love with a mob boss's daughter.
This is a dark romance with an unexpected fetish kink, full of violence, and definitely has some content that you might find offensive, but fans of Ivy Wild and her dark romances won't be disappointed. Highly recommend.
