Redford Falls Series

Synopsis:

Books one through five all take place in Redford Falls (a fictional town) on the Atlantic Coast of Canada.

Each story highlights one of the town’s residents. The cast grows with each new book, and previous characters are mentioned throughout the series.

What is the sub-genre and trope?  Did your characters lead you to this genre or was that decided before the story began?

The Redford Falls series of books are all sweet contemporary. Many are second chance romances.

Are you more character or plot driven?

Definitely both. The characters are the spotlight, but the plot drives each story.

With many main and secondary characters, how do you keep them separated in your mind?  Do you have a story/vision board above your workspace?

The cast in Redford Falls gets larger with each book, so to remember who everyone is, I created a spreadsheet with the characters that appear in each story and their role.

I know from previous interviews that characters take on a life of their own.  Were any of the characters in this series determined to take their own direction instead of where you initially wanted them to go?

Definitely! Some characters were in the background, but as soon as they appeared on stage, they wanted a story of their own. For Example, Andrew Bailey was dumped by the heroine in book one, but he decided his story needed to be told in book two.

Are any of the characters based on anyone you know? Are any of the female POVs based on anyone you know?

All my characters are fictional.

Was there any one character/scene that was harder to write about than the other?

In book three, Under The Apple Blossoms, the heroine’s mother had bipolar disorder, so I had to do a lot of research to make sure I got the details correct.

What is your favorite book in the series?

My favourite was book two, Kissed By Winter, and Under The Apple Blossoms is a close second. But the fifth book, Finding Home Again is climbing fast to the top.

I know that we aren’t supposed to have “favorites” as far as our children, but seriously, who’s your favorite character and why?

Good question! But a hard one because I like all of my characters, but if I was forced to choose, I would pick Andrew Bailey and Danielle Lerato in Kissed By Winter (book two). They are such fun characters and have great chemistry.

Series question - Who is your favorite couple and why did you decide on their dynamics?

Answered above.

How do you get inside these character’s heads to find their perfect HEA?

My characters tend to write the scenes for me. Their voices are hard to ignore.

What scene in this book/series sticks out the most for you?  Why?

Finding Home Again (book five) has a great confrontation scene where the reader learns who the villain is.

Series - Were any of the books harder to write than others?

Each book came with its own obstacles. Some required more research, while others had a more detailed plot.

This question is if you write in MULTIPLE POVs not just the hero and heroine - I love the multiple POVs in a book.  It’s not just the hero and heroine, but we get inside the heads of multiple characters throughout this series.  I feel that it gives the story further depth.  Do you think you will write another book or series following this multiple POV outline?

I only write in the heroine’s and hero’s POV.

How long did it take you to write this book/series?

The first book in the series, His Candy Christmas, was first published in 2013 as One Sweet Christmas, but released by a new publisher in 2019. I am still writing stories for this series.

How did you come up with the title for your book and series?

Titles are the worst part of writing. The title either comes to me at the beginning of the book, or not until the very end.

If you met these characters in real life would you get along?

Definitely. My characters are wonderful people.

Series question – Did you know in advance that you were going to write this as a series or did one of the characters in book one demand their own story?

Many characters demand their own story. I knew there would be a few books, but I am now writing the seventh book and there are more to come.

If your book/series were made into a movie, which actors do you see as playing your characters?

Each one of my characters’ appearances is based on an actor or actress. I have photos in a spreadsheet by my character’s names and attributes.

Can you give us a hint as to what we can expect next?  Whether a new book and series or a sequel to an existing series?  Can you share a small tease?

I am currently writing a sub-series/spin-off to Redford Falls. The first five books are listed as ‘A Redford Falls Story’. My new spin-off is titled “The Marleys of Redford Falls’ and will be about the five Marley brothers. Book one has been contracted and will hopefully be out later this year, and I am currently writing book two.
