REVIEW - PEAKS AND PROMISES by Claire Kingsley

Reese had been out of town for months guarding an archaeological site in Peru and was sitting at his favorite diner. The food and coffee weren't what brought him back day after day because, honestly, they were awful. It also wasn't that it was only a few blocks from his house. No, he came to see the beautiful waitress, Summer.

Her smile and bright conversation always gave him comfort. But when her shoulders stiffened and her smile dimmed when two bikers with Midnight Mayhem on the back of their cuts walked in the door, his body went on alert.

Summer watched as Buzz and Hammer walked into the diner with huge smirks on their faces. No matter where she moved Midnight Mayhem seemed to show up and let her know she was being watched. She once thought a motorcycle-riding bad boy was exciting. She found out differently after getting together with Axel and she left him and he soon went to prison.

Unfortunately, she made the mistake of writing him in prison, telling him she was pregnant. She has been shadowed ever since.

Now Axel is out of prison and when he shows up at Nate's school unannounced, Summer turns to a man she barely knows for help.

I loved this story! It is very well written and the characters are fully developed and relatable. The Haven Brothers series is intended to be read in order and I would suggest that you start where everything in Tillikum began, with The Bailey Brothers. I have been waiting forever for Reese's story. He has been a total mystery throughout this series with references in his siblings books showing their anger and confusion of why Reese disappeared from their lives with no warning and no contact, except to periodically let their mother know that he was alive.

Reese left his home in Tillikum in humiliation and anger. Feeling that he had burned any chance of building a bridge that he had blown up with his betrayal. But, when Summer's ex shows up with the intent to kidnap their 10-year-old son, he knows that his family home in Tillikum is the safest place for them to be.

Unlike the other books in this series, you know who the third POV belongs to. There is no mystery as to who the bad guy is. This book is action-packed, full of emotion, danger and suspense. Reese and Summer's relationship, fake or not, is spicy hot, even though they both know it will eventually end.

Peaks and Promises is narrated by Aiden Snow, Stella Hunter with Stephen Dexter. These voice actors did an amazing job bringing Reese, Summer & Axel to life. Aiden Snow... swoon. Stella Hunter... amazing.  Stephen Dexter... showed us exactly how evil and slimy Axel was. I read along with their voices in the background and I highly recommend you do the same. They really bring these characters to life!

I truly hate that we are leaving Tillikum behind with the final book of this series. Luckily, the SPS will stay behind to protect those beloved and mischievous squirrels. Highly recommend!
