REVIEW - EAT YOUR HEART OUT by Shirley Goldberg

Dana can't believe what she is reading.  Her ex asshat of a boyfriend who broke up with her on Facebook is the new Vice-Principal.  And if that isn't enough to ruin her day, it's the job she was hoping to get.

Dana is at the open-air market with her best friends and fellow teachers, Sunny and Noelle, when she notices a good-looking man in baggy clothes.  He looks familiar and knows her name, but she can't place where she knows him from.

Alex is an English teacher at the local high school.  After falling down and literally couldn't get up last year, he decided to have Laparoscopic surgery.  Even though his diet, workout routine, and hiking have made him very buff, he has a lifetime's worth of insecurity of not being good enough.

This story is very well written and the characters are fully developed and relatable.  This is a story about two middle-aged people who are looking for love.  Dana not only has to work with her ex, but a tyrant in high heels is the interim Principal.  She is confused by the mixed signals she is getting from Alex and finds that online dating might not be for her.

Alex may be smoking hot after his surgery, but he is full of insecurities.  He meets a woman online but starts having doubts the more time he spends with her especially when all he can think about is Dana.  And then he gets a phone call that changes his life.

This story had me laughing and I could actually hear the clack, clack, clack of high heels in the school corridors.  Although this is a romance, don't expect any smoking hot bedroom scenes because there aren't any.  This is the first time I've read a book going from hugely obese to buff and I loved Alex's journey.

So if you are looking for a book about second chances, this is the book to read.  This is the first time I've read anything by Shirley Goldberg, but look forward to reading more in the future!
