Cassidy is finally able to find a quiet moment to sit down with a book. She is just getting settled when she hears car doors slamming and angry voices. Her daughter is fighting with him again. It was heartbreaking not to interfere and let her teenage daughter live her life and deal with what fate has thrown her way.
She remembers when she was in those shoes...begging for her relationship to not end. As she tries not to eavesdrop on their fight her mind drifts back thirty-four years to when she was fourteen and they were finally about to get their own house and no longer live with her grandmother.
Her best friend Liz was helping her unpack her room when they take a break and watch the neighborhood kids playing on the street. Her life changed the second she set eyes on him. She had never been that interested in boys, but that all changed when she looked into Danny's eyes.
This book is very well written and the characters are fully developed and relatable. I have to admit that I wanted to put Cassidy in time out so many times while reading this book and Danny did nothing to endear himself to me. At times it was very difficult for me to continue as his actions hit way too close to home, but like a train wreck, I couldn't put the book down.
This book is action-packed from word one through Cassidy and Danny's off and on relation. Cassidy is definitely a glutton for punishment, but no matter how many times she tries to move on with her life all she has to do is be in his presence and the cycle starts all over.
This story is told solely in Cassidy's POV as she takes you through her toxic obsession with Danny. This book doesn't give you a resolution and ends on a cliffhanger for those who only want a one book read. This book is full of betrayal, forgiveness, and broken relationships.
Unlike her friends who always showed up with a box of Kleenex, I truly wanted for Cassidy to accept what was before her and move on with her life. Looking forward to seeing what is on the other side of the door.
