REVIEW - THE PHOTOGRAPH by Eve M Riley

Des is leaving his job at Williams Security ready to hit the New York nightlife. He is second-in-command at a fast-growing software developing company and this is his first night back after a long stint in Korea and he is ready to party.

He is meeting with Alex who contacted him on Grindr and can't wait to meet him. But Alex wasn't anything like he expected. He was gorgeous but shy and wanted to take things slow. Slow? Why did he sign up on a hook-up app if he wanted a long-term relationship?

He was telling his co-worker about the odd date the next morning when he received a notification. A photograph of a guy who has just finished tying a shoestring. Polished shoes, pants at a crease, and a tattoo peeking over the top of his sock. Of all the pics that have been sent and some really shouldn't have been shared... this one he can't get out of his head.

Although MM romance is not my usual read I really loved this story. Des has known all his life that he was gay and never had to 'come out' to his family as his mother and sisters just knew. He enjoyed the nightlife clubbing with his friends and letting lose.

Alex is the youngest of five and the only son in a Jewish family. After an incident when he was thirteen, his parents swept everything under the rug as 'everyone experiments' and set out to find him a nice Jewish girl.

Des and Alex's story is not an easy road. Alex's internal fight to finally admit his sexuality to himself is nothing compared to his family's denial and guilt used to control him. It is full of doubt, insecurity and jealousy. It is a book of letting loose and accepting who you are and fighting for your happiness even when you have to make the heartbreaking decision to walk away from your family.

I haven't read the other three books in the series, but the characters are recurring and I can't wait to read their stories. Highly recommend!
