REVIEW - MOUNTAIN TRIAL by JR Pace

Kat a member of the Peloton de Gendarmerie de Haute Montagne, Mont Blanc's search & rescue team is skiing on a black run by herself.  Normally she wouldn't have gone skiing on a black run by herself, but she needed time alone after finding out Jacques Perez was back in town.

Jacques was a born and bred Chamonix snowboarder.  It was bad enough that she has had to see his face plastered in all the local papers in the last ten years for every trophy and award he had received since he moved to the United States ten years ago, but she felt nauseous when she found out he would be arriving in a few weeks for the Victory Games.

It was hard remembering the violence she had received from the man she adored, but worse was that when she finally spoke out no-one believed her.  That hurt her more than the physical and psychological damage Jacques had inflicted.

As she was coming out of her reflections of the life she's built for herself she sees a young boy who obviously shouldn't be on this run skiing recklessly towards her.  As she cut her skis to avoid him another is coming and not aware of the danger of having her sandwiched in between them, she made a sharp turn to avoid him only to realize there was a third larger man sitting on the side of the piste and she dropped her poles and threw herself into the snow hoping to slow down her impact when she hit him.

There was no way to stop their fall down the slope.  The last thing she saw before they tumbled down the slope with his arms wrapped around her were his impossibly clear blue eyes.

We first meet Luc Fournier in Cold and Bitter Snow and I have to say that he is the most complex and vulnerable character to date.  Luc fractured this spine in a snowboarding accident leaving him a paraplegic, but didn't let no longer having the use of his legs keep him from living his life.

I love this series.  JR Pace not only gives you amazingly complex characters, but the depth of information in JR Pace's stories makes even the ignorant feel like they're skiing down these dangerous mountain slopes.  This book is action packed from beginning to end and is full of danger, suspense, and smoking hot romance.

JR Pace has written another blockbuster romantic thriller and I can't wait to see what happens next in Chamonix!

Although COLD AND BITTER SNOW is not considered part of the MONT BLANC RESCUE Series, I would consider this novella as a prequel to the series.
