Victor knows before the lawyer says anything that he isn't going to like the terms of his grandfather's will. He is shuffling the papers and refuses to make eye contact with anyone in the room. When he finally begins he tells them that his aunt will receive half of all his grandfather's assets minus all real estate.
Victor is the remaining beneficiary since both of his parents died in a car accident when he was eight years old. That's when his grandfather stepped in to raise him. The lawyer finally looks up and says that his grandfather left all real estate and half of all other assets to Victor...but there was a condition.
His portion will be held in trust until he marries. If he is not married in 2 years time his portion, including the house he grew up in, will go to his aunt.
It has been a nearly a year since her boss left and Victor St. Clair became the new CEO of Exciteur. To be exact...11 months 3 weeks and 2 days and the timer on her computer is counting down the time. She was highly recommended by her previous boss, but overheard Victor say he doubted she'd make it a month let alone a year but he would see how it worked out.
He was a nightmare to work for and once she won the bet she made with herself and completed one year of working for Victor, she was quitting her job. Cecilia is just rushing back to her desk after warming up her lunch when she comes to a complete stop. Her boss is at her desk looking over the resume that she forgot to put away.
When asked if she plans on leaving she deflects and tells him she was just making sure it was up to date and then he does something he has never done before. He looks at her from head to toe and just comments 'interesting' before returning to his office. After everyone else has left for the day she approaches his office to see if he needed anything else before leaving and he shocks her by saying that he has a job offer for her.
The job...marry him so he can get his inheritance. When she explains she isn't interested and that the whole point of her leaving was to be no where near him he tells her he will give her whatever she wants, name the price, for one year of marriage.
So she resets the timer on her computer.......
I loved this book! It is very well written and the characters are fully developed and relatable. This book is hilarious. I love how Cecelia turns Victor's life upside down. All he has ever known was hard work. His grandfather may have loved him, but all he taught Victor was to work hard to stay on top. Victor learns immediately how much he has taken advantage of Cecelia after firing several assistants hired by the HR team.
I would have loved to have seen the look on Victor's face the first day she was out of her work clothes and showed her real personality instead of the non-descript neutral clothes she wore to work. The wedding gifts will have you dying with laughter.
The chemistry between these two is smoking hot! Highly recommend!
