REVIEW - THE PATRON by Vivian Wood

The Patron is book one of three in the Broken Slipper series and boy does this series start out with a bang!

Kiai is a tall, thin, blonde ballerina who is in the final twenty-four students at the New York Academy of Ballet.  Only the best dancers make it this far.  With grueling hard work and no social life, Kiai has earned her place in this class.

Due to the strictures of dancing almost every breathing moment Kiai's only friends are in her ballet class.  Ella who is an incredibly tiny black woman with a perfect turnout and Eric with his blonde hair and blue eyes looks like a Disney prince.  And then there is Manon the witch.  The class would be perfect without her snide remarks every day, all day.

But, Kaia has a secret.  A forbidden job ... dancing outside of school is a huge no-no and if she was found out it would be the end of her dream.  Because at night she is "Cerise" a stripper at Club X.  Ballerina by day, stripper by night.

But, there is no other job that can get her the money she needs.  Her sinister father wants complete control of her life and in order to get from underneath his control, she owes him $325,000.  The cost of supporting her her whole life.  She will do anything to get from underneath his control.

Calum is tall and broad with dark hair and deep blue eyes.  He was THE danseur in the New York Ballet corps before a ligament tear in his knee ended his career.  But, the injury turned out to be a blessing in disguise as he is now the billionaire CEO of Indica Tech.

Calum has lusted after the prima at the New York Ballet for over a decade since they had danced together.  Now that she has caused a huge scandal, he wonders if this is his chance to convince her to be his lover.

He is now the main benefactor of the New York Ballet and he is asked his thoughts on a replacement for Honor.  He decides to take a break and leave the business in his brother's hands and take over the stage manager position, but they have to fire all the dancers.  He wants a fresh start.

Suddenly Kiai's dreams have come true.  The prima made a scene in front of their visiting class flaunting her pregnancy with the very married stage manager getting them both fired.  And since there was no one of the quality to take her place the majority of the corps was dismissed opening 30 spots.

But, Kiai can't believe her eyes as she stares into the furious eyes of Mister X ... who asked to be her patron after she danced for him as a stripper ... Mister X who happens to be Calum, the new stage manager who has her future in his hands.

I love this book!!!  It is very well written and the characters are just amazing!  Kiai is just trying to survive the best way she can.  Her father is just plain INSANE and her mother is no help.  I have to say I'd love to slap her sister.

Kiai is very insecure about her dancing and has been beat down her whole life by her father, but she has a totally different persona when she becomes Cerise.  She holds her head high and takes no prisoners.  She just wishes she could carry it over into her "real" life and not just while playing out a fantasy.

Calum is a gorgeous, but very damaged man.  He is full of rage that has been building since his mother died when he was 15.  Not that she had been a good mother being a drug addict, but he did everything he could to make sure he and his brother Jason were taken care of.  The damage to his soul is unrepairable.

The sexual chemistry between Kiai and Calum will give you chills.  This book is action-packed, full of suspense, and smoking hot!  Both Kiai and Calum have damaging childhoods.  Kiai tries to hide and Calum is an explosion waiting to happen.

This book has a few twists and turns and just when you think things are working out for Kiai, the rug is pulled from underneath her feet leaving her devastated.

I can't wait to read The Dancer and The Embrace for the rest of Kiai and Calum's story!  Highly highly recommend this book and series!
