BIO:
I am a wife and mother. We have three sons four grandchildren, and two rescue kitties.
I have been interested in writing most of my life. Starting with fairy tales especially written for my sons.
I have a BSBA and an associate's degree in supervisory management. I went back to school and graduated at the age of fifty-two with my family cheering me on the entire way.
Writing is a dream come true for me. I feel with the right help and support you can achieve anything. I am an example of that. I hope to always be a good example for my four grandchildren.
Never give up your dreams, fight for what you want, and take time for love.
When and how did you know you wanted to be a writer?
I wrote stories since I was a teenager. They were just for me. I wrote fairy tales for my sons. I have always known but lacked the knowledge.
Did you have any influencing writers growing up?
I read mostly auto-biographies. I won a contest in third grade for reading the most books. I devoured books even as a child. My all-time favorite book is Call of the Wild by Jack London.
Are any of your characters based on people in real life?
I use names of co-workers and friends and family but none of my stories are based on anyone in real life. They all come from my head.
Where do you draw your book inspirations from?
An idea pops into my head and will not leave me alone. I dream about how to twists events happening in my stories. The plot nags at me until I finally finish the book.
Do you use have a basic outline when starting a new story or do you let the characters lead the way?
I do have a basic outline, but my stories or characters rarely follow it.
When you are picturing the characters in your book, do you have a cheater photo for inspiration?
No, just a picture in my head.
Many people read as a form of escape and relaxation. What is your favorite way to sit back and relax?
Either laying in bed propped up on a pillow with my Kindle or having a cup of coffee in the morning before anyone is up.
Who are your favorite current authors to read?
I have so many. My all-time favorite is Christine Feehan. I wait anxiously for the next book in the Dark Series. She made a language for the Carpathians. Songs and healing chants. Piper Stone is another favorite and Tessa Carr is another, Vanessa Brooks, Alyssa Bailey. I love them all.
What are your favorite books by others?
The Forbidden Saga books by Maggie Ryan. I have read them all and loved them all in this series. Most of Piper Stones books but I especially love the Missoula Smoke Jumper series and her Dark Mafia.
Do the locations in the stories have any meaning to you?
Not usually.
Do you write in single or multiple POV?
Multiple usually.
What do you find to be your best research tool?
The internet and I use it often.
Do you write under a pen name? Also, do you write under more than one name?
My pen name is Syrene Burns, but I have written many books under Char Cauley too.
What genre do you write and why is this your preference?
I like westerns and Old Irish stories most, but I try to expand and write a lot of different ones. Just to see if I can.
Tell me something about yourself outside of writing. Jobs, accomplishments, family, quirky traits....what led to you being you?
I am a mother and grandmother. Didn’t start writing until into my 60’s. I worked a job and a half and got my BSBA. I always wanted to write all my life. We have two rescue kitties we love to death and as my kids all have families of their own now they are our children now.
What advice would you give to an aspiring writer?
If you are like me and it is just “in you” Go for it. Sit down and write something. There is plenty of help out there. Most other authors are more than happy to help any new authors. Just do it!
