As Danielle is waiting for her coffee to brew she is watching the rain through her kitchen window thinking that the only thing exciting about today was that it was Friday and she was meeting her family at the bar tonight to celebrate her youngest sister Keni's twenty-first birthday.
With her working her dead-end job and not living at home anymore she doesn't get to spend as much time as she wished with her family. As she fills her coffee cup she remembers in amusement the shock on her mother's face when her sister Nicki had gifted one to both her and Keni last Christmas. She didn't think that the vulgar language was what shocked her mother as much as she didn't receive one.
She is packing up at the end of her work day when she hears a messenger ping on her computer. Jacob Reynolds. Her neighbor and best friend since high school. He had joined the army as soon as he turned eighteen and as she looked at the clock she debated if answering would make her late. When she responds she finds out he back in town and she tells him to meet them at the bar.
Jacob is back home after recuperating from a gunshot wound while on his Army tour and decided it was time to come home. When Dani offered her couch until he could find a permanent place to stay he almost turned her down. Everyone thinks that he joined the Army to spite his parents, but in reality he realized the night he had taken Dani to her prom that he was in love with his best friend and when she started seeing Jarred, he couldn't stay and see her with someone else. He had to get out of town.
I loved Dani and Jacob's story. It is very well written and the characters are fully developed and relatable. I loved Dani's relationship with her parents and sisters and these secondary characters really pull the story together.
This book is action-packed from page one. This is a boy next door, best friends romance and when they finally go for it, Jacob makes a huge mistake that almost ruined everything. This is the first time I've read this author and I totally enjoyed the story plot and the characters. Looking forward to what she has in store for the remaining Johnson sisters.
ONE NIGHT is book one of THE JOHNSON SISTERS Trilogy
