OFF LIMIT: mybook.to/forgottenflounders2

Connor Jacobs daydreams of stage lights, sold-out concerts, and Dare McKenzie—her brother’s best friend and the bassist of The Forgotten Flounders. Music and chemistry collide when Dare and Connor quietly start working on a collaboration. He knows that she has what it takes to make it in the music industry, and he’s willing to help make all her dreams come true.

Her family is already struggling with the fallout of an earth-shattering secret. She knows another will destroy her father, who already feels that music has cost their family too much.

Time is running out for Connor, and she must make her choice before she loses everything she’s dreamed of.

OFF LIMIT is the second book in the Forgotten Flounders series.

Book 1 is OFF BEAT: mybook.to/forgottenflounders1

It’s been nine years since Calum Jacobs, the frontman of The Forgotten Flounders, has returned to his sleepy east coast hometown. His decision to bail on his post-graduation plans to tour the world with his punk-rock band infuriated his father. He’s also been too afraid to face Harper Morrison; the girl he left behind. They had plans to go to college together, but the moment he boarded that plane, choosing a different life for himself, Harper had to make her own path…and it didn’t include chasing down a man who’d left her. When Cal is called back to attend his grandfather’s funeral, he has no idea the shocking secrets that await him…

What is the sub-genre and trope? Did your characters lead you to this genre or was that decided before the story began?

Rock star romance, small town romance. It was decided before the story began 😊

Are you more character or plot driven?

I think I’m more character driven, but I do think the plot drives a lot of the story, too.

With many main and secondary characters, how do you keep them separated in your mind? Do you have a story/vision board above your workspace?

I have Pinterest boards, a series bible, and a notebook full of notes!

I know from previous interviews that characters take on a life of their own. Were any of the characters in this series determined to take their own direction instead of where you initially wanted them to go?

Connor, for sure. I guess, like Michael, I expected she’d settle for the safe choice. But she doesn’t!

Are any of the male POVs based on anyone you know?

Yes…I can’t say who though 😉

Are any of the female POVs based on anyone you know?

Also yes…Raina, for example, is based on a very dear friend of mine.

Was there any one character/scene that was harder to write about than the other?

Any scene visiting Connor’s grief over losing her grandpa was difficult, especially because Frank Murphy’s character was inspired by my grandpa.

He’s 92 and riddled with cancer, but he’s still kicking and one of my biggest cheerleaders. It’s thanks to him that I was even able to continue on with publishing!

What is your favorite book in the series?

It’s not written yet, but I have a feeling OFF BALANCE is going to be my favourite of the series.

All the skeletons in the Jacobs’ family closet will be exposed, and the fact that I’ll finally get to write from the perspective of a single mom raising a little boy with a chronic pain bone disorder (the same one myself and my sons have).

I know that we aren’t supposed to have “favorites” as far as our children, but seriously, who’s your favorite character and why?

Probably Nik, because he’s inspired by my boys.

Series question - Who is your favorite couple and why did you decide on their dynamics?

Connor and Dare are probably my favourite couple.

I really thought that Calum and Harper would be, and while they’re a close second…sneaking in all the interactions between Connor and Dare on the sly in OFF BEAT, and then getting to show what’s REALLY going on with them in OFF LIMIT?

Yeah, that was a lot of fun!

How do you get inside these character’s heads to find their perfect HEA?

It can be hard, but that’s what all specially selected Spotify playlists are for! The different kinds of music gets me into specific characters' heads.

What scene in this book/series sticks out the most for you? Why?

When Connor stood in for her brother and played with the Forgotten Flounders. It was just a very special moment for her, and Dare made it happen.

Series - Were any of the books harder to write than others?

Getting more into the grief aspect with losing Gramps in Connor’s story was challenging, but the biggest challenge would probably be writing Michael Jacobs.

Love him or hate him, he’s a very unique character and his behavior has influenced A LOT of things in this series.

This question is if you write in MULTIPLE POVs not just the hero and heroine - I love the multiple POVs in a book. It’s not just the hero and heroine, but we get inside the heads of multiple characters throughout this series. I feel that it gives the story further depth. Do you think you will write another book or series following this multiple POV outline?

I actually toyed with the idea of sprinkling some of Maeve and Michael’s POV throughout the series, but ultimately decided not to do that because I worried it would take away from Calum and Connor’s stories.

But it may happen in book 3…

How long did it take you to write this book/series?

I started writing the first book in this series, OFF BEAT, in late 2018. I spent most of 2019 writing, but also took some personal time off to deal with multiple surgeries (my own and my sons).

I published OFF BEAT in 2020, and then started writing OFF LIMIT immediately after.

It took me a year to complete, between re-writes and buying our own house. It’s hard to tell how long this next book will take.

How did you come up with the title for your book and series?

I was originally going to call it the “OFF” series, but opted to go with the band’s name instead.

There’s a lot of “OFF” series, but there’s no Forgotten Flounders! The band was named by my husband, when I told him I was trying to “name a punk-rock band from the east coast”.

He knew the band’s history, and Frank’s history, and came up with their name. I immediately LOVED it and knew it was the perfect fit. Not only is it a nod to the east coast and fishing, but to flounder is to “struggle or stagger helplessly or clumsily in water or mud”, aka…to “struggle mentally”, which I felt that my character Calum was certainly doing at the time he left and while he was gone.

If you met these characters in real life would you get along?

Harper and I would totally be buddies, I’d be in her store every day.

I think I’d love all the guys in TFF, but I would have a hard time getting along with Michael.

Series question – Did you know in advance that you were going to write this as a series or did one of the characters in book one demand their own story?

I knew in advance this would be a series, it’s centered around the skeletons family’s have in their closet.

If your book/series were made into a movie, which actors do you see as playing your characters?

I’d love to see Bella Throne as Connor, Stephen James Hendry as Calum, Christopher Mason Brown as Dare, and Josh Dun is basically perfect for Evan.

Can you give us a hint as to what we can expect next? Whether a new book and series or a sequel to an existing series? Can you share a small tease?

You can expect the third book in my Forgotten Flounders series sometime in 2023!

But I’m releasing a standalone romance in the Cinnamon Bay world in November..

BLURB:

Jaded single mom Sage Whitaker is tired of choosing the wrong men. After discovering her fiancé with his secretary, Sage cuts all ties and relocates herself and her six-year-old daughter to Cinnamon Bay to start over. She hopes to build a new life for herself and her daughter.

What she doesn’t count on is her old crush, Phoenix Hutchinson, taking an interest. He’s funny, charismatic, and charming–but Sage has been fooled by love before, and she’s not willing to give her heart away so easily.

Phoenix hadn’t thought about Sage in years, but when she moves to town, those old feelings awaken the moment he sees her again. But Sage has her walls up. Can Nix whittle his way into her heart and convince her their fierce connection is worth the risk?
