SYNOPSIS:

An unbreakable curse, fated mates, and a shifter with a cursing problem.

How are the books in the series related?

Once the series is complete, they will all be intertwined.

What is the sub-genre and trope?

Paranormal Fantasy/Paranormal Romance: Fated Mates

Did your characters lead you to this genre or was that decided before the story began?

It was decided beforehand. I like to bounce around genres, and I haven’t written a PNR book for a bit. It was time.

Are you more character or plot-driven?

A little bit of both.

I like trying to figure out character motivations and steer the story in the direction they would.

Still, I’m all about the twists and turns. The more intricate, the better.

With many main and secondary characters, how do you keep them separated in your mind?

I just do. For example, I immediately know that my current heroine is scarred from a life in foster care, yet she still manages to fight her way through the trials and tribulations.

Along the same lines, one of my supporting characters likes to curse in French and has a silly sense of humor.

Do you have a story/vision board above your workspace?

Yes. I write down my notes as well as other to-do items. I also keep an excel spreadsheet with names, attributes, and such. I didn’t before, but as my writing develops, I find it’s easier to keep things straight. It’s not an outline per se, but it’s close.

I know from previous interviews that characters take on a life of their own.  Were any of the characters in this series determined to take their own direction instead of where you initially wanted them to go?

OMG yes! In my Sexy Series, I intended the first book to be the only one. Then, one of the characters was like, “Ma’am, I demand to be heard.”

That of course led to a third book in the series, and I have plans for a spin-off.

Are any of the male POVs based on anyone you know?

Yes. Oliver from Seducing My Valentine is based on my husband and our courtship.

There are several things I added to the book that represents me and the hubby. I of course am the heroine.

Are any of the female POVs based on anyone you know?

Besides Carrie in Seducing My Valentine, I have a character, Danni, who is based on a friend.

She plays the villain in Finishing in the New Year. I wanted her to be the exact opposite of my friend, and she was!

Was there any one character/scene that was harder to write about than the other?

Death scenes are the worse. I’ve only had to kill two important characters, and I got a little teary-eyed.

Break-ups are also the worst. My hardest was Marla and Jared. Cheating in a book is a hard pass, but for story purposes, I had to include it in theirs. I hated doing that to them, but eventually, it worked out.

What is your favorite book in the series?

My first series (The Hybrid Series) will always have a special place in my heart. However, I am really in love with Twisted Origin.

It’s exciting developing new characters and building a different supernatural world. I have a ton of plans for the Infinite Destiny Series, and it’s so hard not to share.

I know that we aren’t supposed to have “favorites” as far as our children, but seriously, who’s your favorite character and why?

Easton Roman in Insatiable Lover. He was totally unapologetic and so damn flirty it was painful. He made me so mad but at the same time crack up.

Series question - Who is your favorite couple and why did you decide on their dynamics?

Easton and Mika. Their chemistry was BANANAS. Plus, I just LOVE Mika’s first name, Lovell.

I was randomly chatting with a reader on FB, and I asked her if I could use her name in a story. I already knew Mika would be a full-figured brown girl, and I wanted her to have an unusual name. So I came up with Lovell Tamika Pearson.

How do you get inside these character’s heads to find their perfect HEA?

I basically become that character. It’s like a weird inside voice telling me to do this or that. I guess you could call it my imagination, but it feels like more. When it’s quiet, my mind wanders off to my fictional world and I picture these scenes.

I only wish I could write faster than my thoughts!

What scene in this book/series sticks out the most for you?

The scene where Trevor and Melody get back together in Firefly Why? Without spoiling it, my playlist was a big deal for me with this book. I found a way to incorporate music into many of the scenes to set the mood. This one felt the most powerful to me.

Series - Were any of the books harder to write than others?

Firefly was incredibly hard because I intended it to be a slow burn. They took forever to kiss and it was getting annoying.

How long did it take you to write this book/series?

I had a lot of ups and downs during the series, so it took me maybe five months. Plus, I had a novella I needed to write at the same time too.

How did you come up with the title for your book and series?

My titles usually just come to me, but I had to put thought in this one.

The main premise of my story is that fated mates don’t exist for male shifters for one reason. There are no females of their species. They died out many years ago. Anyone they try to convert doesn’t survive.

It’s such a Twisted (see what I did there?) fate for the men. But what if one woman does survive? What’s the source of her immunity, her beginning? So, I ended up with Twisted Origin!

The next book in the series’ title has a similar vibe.

If you met these characters in real life would you get along?

Yes. I get along with everyone!

Series question – Did you know in advance that you were going to write this as a series or did one of the characters in book one demand their own story?

Yes and no. I thought I’d pair one couple only to find they belong with someone else. It’s truly up to my muse.

If your book/series were made into a movie, which actors do you see as playing your characters?

I can’t think of anyone off hand. My brain still pictures my inspiration photos on my Pinterest. I’ll leave that up to my readers.

Can you give us a hint as to what we can expect next? Whether a new book and series or a sequel to an existing series?  Can you share a small tease?

Lots more drama in book two, and in some spots, my readers might hate me. Trust that I’ll give them the HEA they deserve.

Yes! The prologue and first chapter are available here >> https://dl.bookfunnel.com/tmr3902oug

Fated mates aren't always an absolute.

Leena
I'm a survivor.
Between foster care, handsy step-siblings, and a mountain of toxic ex-boyfriends, I have to be.
After barely escaping my last loser, I was attacked in a way I didn't know possible.
I should've died.
Fate has other plans.
Now, I'm forced into a life surrounded by things that go bump in the night, where fairy tales and mythical creatures are real. My mere existence has attracted an entire supernatural world.
Both good and bad want to own me, but the only person I belong to is him.

Declan
If someone told me years ago I was destined to lose my sanity because of an unbreakable curse, I would've laughed in their face. I was human, and my life wasn't complicated.
An animal attack changed that. It changed everything.
The beast killed my family and transformed me into this thing.
I spend my time protecting mankind from the worst of us--the feral wolf shifters who've succumbed to madness.
Still, he got to her, and I was too late.
Or so I believed.
I was given a second chance, and this time, failure isn't an option. I'll keep Leena safe and protected the one way I know how.
By making her mine.
