Mateo spent the night in jail after beating the crap out of Hunter. He put all his rage into what Hunter has been doing to Elle and had to be pulled off of him. When he gets home the next day and charges his phone his heart drops when he sees a break-up message from Elle.
He races to Elle's dorm to talk to her and finally tell her he loves her, but she won't listen. Her words break his heart especially when she tells him she is going to France for the summer abroad program. Something she's known for months but didn’t tell him. But his heart completely shattered when she told him he was going to be just like his dad. Something he's worked his whole life not to be.
Mateo feels like he's been sitting at the airport forever waiting for Elle to get through Customs. He doesn't know if the huge bouquet of roses he bought will be enough after he is ambushes her at the airport, but she has ignored his messages all summer. He grabs the flowers and as he's waiting for the elevator he sees her coming down the stairs looking for her ride. He gets nauseous as he sees Hunter step up to hug her and she hugs him back and they get in the car and drive away.
Ellie is laughing with Mateo underneath the tree which turns into tickling and then kisses. She jolts awake realizing there's no more flirting or spending time with Mateo. She discovered who she wanted to be while in France for her summer abroad program, but as soon as she got off the plane reality hits her in the face. She is looking around for her mother, but instead finds Hunter there to pick her up.
She has to play nice until May and follow Hunter's rules so he won't file charges against Mateo for assault. She had agreed to break up and have nothing to do with Mateo if Hunter dropped all charges and paid Mateo's bail. She refused to be the reason Mateo lost all his dreams.
What an amazing duet!!! Holly Caste had me on the edge of my seat waiting for the bomb to explode. This story is very well written and the storyline is complex and kept my attention. The characters are fully developed and totally relatable.
This story is action packed and full of intrigue and suspense as Holly fights her way to finding herself and taking control instead of having it taken away. This book takes you on a journey of self discovery, mental issues and abuse. I absolutely love Ellie's resolution and how she used it to help others like her.
This is the first time I have read Holly Caste and she has written an amazing story. It has everything you need in a story...conflict...amazing characters...smoking hot chemistry...action and suspense. Highly recommend this author!
