I would like to thank Emily Bowie for taking the time for this interview!
BIO:
Emily Bowie is from a small town in Western Canada. She has been making characters come to life through her writing since she was old enough to put her thoughts on paper. She loves her white wine cold, her heels red, and her books spicy.
She married her high school sweetheart and they have two amazing children.
When she is not writing she can be found reading a good book, making digital scrapbooks and being physically active—whether it is at the gym, going for a walk, or playing /keep up with her children.
When and how did you know you wanted to be a writer?
I have always been writing. When people say I have voices in my head, its very close to what happens.
If I don’t write, scenes wake me up and I have to write them down in order to sleep.
Are any of your characters based on people in real life?
No one is based on people I know. I may take attributes of many people and weave them together.
Where do you draw your book inspirations from?
From everywhere. No conversation if off limits.
Do you use have a basic outline when starting a new story or do you let the characters lead the way?
I outline by 25% chunks.
When you are
picturing the characters in your book, do you have a cheater photo for
inspiration?
Not typically.
Many people read as a
form of escape and relaxation. What is your favorite way to sit back
and relax?
In the heat with a glass of wine.
Who are your favorite current authors to read?
Sophie lark, Rina Kent, Cora Reilly
What are your favorite books by others?
Too many to name.
Do the locations in the stories have any meaning to you?
I typically write in Texas because it's most similar to Alberta where I live, and my editor is from there so she can correct any errors I have.
Do you write in single or multiple POV?
Dual.. his and hers.
What genre do you write and why is this your preference?
I started with darker small town and now its mafia.
Tell me something about yourself outside of writing. Jobs, accomplishments, family, quirky trait...what led to you being you?
I love reading, have 2 kids and married my high school sweetheart.
How do you deal and process negative book reviews?
I’m a very positive person and I try to use them to better my books.
What is the most difficult part of your writing process?
Plotting. I’m a pantster, but try to plot because I can write significantly faster when I do.
What do you need in your writer’s space to keep you focused?
Quiet.. not even music can be playing
What is your naughty indulgence as you are writing?
Wine.
If you could spend a day with another popular author, whom would you choose? And why?
Of this one is hard… Willow Winters, Colleen Hoover
What is your schedule like when you are writing? Do you have a favorite writing snack or drink?
I have about an hour a day to write. I rarely snack when writing.
Have pets ever gotten in the way of your writing?
Yes. When my dog was a puppy he refused to let me write unless I played with him first.
Have you ever killed off a character that your readers loved?
Not yet…
How do you celebrate after typing THE END?
By plotting another book. Lol. I think I need to start a way to celebrate.
I hope you enjoyed this interview!
