Twelve years ago, I fled, vowing to never again use my power. But everything changes when I break that vow and bring two bodies back to life in the morgue.

It sends me spinning directly into his orbit.

Arrogant. Menacing. Enigmatic. That’s Bronson Cortez, the notoriously violent gang leader who remains elusive to authorities.

He breaks the law at every turn and answers to no one. But when he offers me a glimpse of what lies beneath that iron-clad exterior, I realize there’s more to him than meets the eye.

The man who fiercely guards his heart somehow manages to claim mine.

But he doesn’t know the truth about me.

I wonder if he could be the first to accept me for who I am—what I am.

I wonder if he’ll be the first to see beyond my darkness.

What is the sub-genre and trope?  Did your characters lead you to this genre or was that decided before the story began?

It is a contemporary romantic suspense with a paranormal twist.

It was decided before the story began.

Are you more character or plot driven?

Oooh, that’s a good question. I think it depends on the given book. For this particular story, I would say plot driver, primarily.

With many main and secondary characters, how do you keep them separated in your mind?  Do you have a story/vision board above your workspace?

I do not have a board (but I probably should!).

For whatever reason, though, I don’t normally have an issue keeping them straight. <knocks on wood>

Are any of the male POVs based on anyone you know? Are any of the female POVs based on anyone you know?

I always loosely weave personalities of people I know into my characters, so yes. 😊

Was there any one character/scene that was harder to write about than the other?

When I wrote Hell Hath No Fury, the scene where Caitlin witnessed her family’s murder—including her six year old daughter—it was extremely difficult as my daughter was the same age at the time.

Putting myself in the main character’s position to experience the anger and grief definitely opened up the floodgates of emotion.

I know that we aren’t supposed to have “favorites” as far as our children, but seriously, who’s your favorite character and why?

My answer tends to change with my new releases and I think I gravitate to the newest ones because they’re most fresh in my mind.

However, I have little favorites for different reasons.

For example, Hell Hath No Fury is a favorite simply because it was so visceral to write a heroine who witnesses her family get killed and loses her six year old daughter. Putting myself in that position, imagining the grief (and having a daughter who was 6, at the time) made it more powerful for me. So, I tend to have favorites for specific reasons.

Who is your favorite couple and why did you decide on their dynamics?

My answer tends to change depending on my mood. Right now, I would say Bronson and Georgia because they are so distinctly different, yet both recognize the darkness that clings to them.

How do you get inside these character’s heads to find their perfect HEA?

It takes a lot of plotting and brainstorming for me, along with really learning the nuances of each character to ensure the reader witnesses their growth before they achieve their HEA.

What scene in this book sticks out the most for you?  Why?

It’s a toss up between when Bronson and Georgia argue at the farmers market, because it’s a prime example of how she doesn’t back down from him and keeps him on his toes while also showing their incredible chemistry.

How long did it take you to write this book?

I think it took a few months, overall, to get to the first draft.

How did you come up with the title for your book and series?

It honestly just popped in my head when I was writing the blurb and it clicked.

If you met these characters in real life would you get along?

Oh, definitely.

Series question – Did you know in advance that you were going to write this as a series or did one of the characters in book one demand their own story?

I had the idea in mind ahead of time, but the characters came to life as I fleshed them out during my drafting of the book.

If your book/series were made into a movie, which actors do you see as playing your characters?

That’s a tough one… Maybe Colin Ferrell for Bronson and Amy Adams for Georgia?

Can you give us a hint as to what we can expect next?  Whether a new book and series or a sequel to an existing series?  Can you share a small tease?

A Stop in Time is next and it is slightly interconnected to Beyond My Darkness but still a standalone. It releases on October 25th.

I’ve been an outcast my whole life. If my scars don’t scare people off, my attitude certainly will.

I don’t know what I am or how I got the power to stop time. What I do know is, there are far too many questions I need answers to.

When I cross paths with a local gang member, his presence unravels a part of my past I never knew existed.

At every turn, danger leaps closer, and I realize that stopping the killer will mean losing everything—including the first man I’ve ever loved.

But I should’ve known better. We were never meant to be anything more than a brief stop in time.
