AUDIOBOOK REVIEW - CROWN OF LIES by Pepper Winters narrated by Kylie Stewart & Eric Rolon

Elle is listening to Steve teasingly scold her dad for bringing her to work with him.  Something that she has been doing since her mother died four years ago.  Today is her twelfth birthday and she wishes for once to not be here at the clothing store that was her legacy.  Her too many greats to count grandfather had named Belle Elle after the first Elle...his wife, Elizabeth Eleanor.

Her father has been training her in every facet of the clothing industry for as long as she can remember and having him hand her his Will for her to acknowledge that when he retires it will be she who becomes CEO and not his partner Steve.  She's twelve...not the gift she wants.  And then he gives her her real gift...a beautiful kitten.

Seven years have passed and as Elle looks down on the New York streets from her office windows, she thinks about her life of privilege and shelter.  She has never had a 'normal' life.  As isolated as she's been she has no friends, has never even been kissed.  The more she thinks about it she decides that this birthday she is going to have one night of normalcy.

She is nineteen and wants to see what is outside these doors.  Elle travels through the departments and puts together an outfit that doesn't scream designer and walks out into the night.  After grabbing some Mexican food at a food cart, she begins wandering and taking in the sites that are New York.  When she ventures into a quieter portion of the city, she is pushed into an alley by two men who plan to rob and rape her.

Just as they are tearing at her clothes, a man comes out of nowhere and beats them off of her and makes them return her belongings.  When she asks if he would make sure she returned home safely, he asks if she trusts him and he takes her to a ballpark in Central Park.  He is kissing her when they are chased by policemen and as they are being arrested for trespassing and indecent exposure, her guard shows up to talk to the officers.

When the officers realize that she is an heiress they uncuff her, but take her rescuer into custody no matter what arguments she makes that he saved her not harmed her.  She didn't even get his name.  He is Nameless in her mind and she will never forget him.

Oh, my!  I stayed up all night listening to this book.  I literally couldn't sleep until the last words were spoken...and when I got to the cliffhanger 'oh, no....'  This is book one of the Crown and Lies duet and this storyline will keep you on the edge if your seat.  It is full of twists and turns leading to a massive cliffhanger.  After learning her truth about the man who had her begging, Elle is not only devastated, but that fate could be so cruel.

I am so praying there is another twist and Penn's truth isn't the one Elle believes.  This story is very well written and the narrators have truly brought this book with all its pain and betrayals to life.  Although this book is told from Elle's POV, it is done in a dual narrative between these amazing narrators.  This is the first time I have listened to either Kylie Stewart or Eric Rolon, but I hope to hear them both in the future.

This dark romance is full of action, intrigue and suspense and highly erotic and smoking hot.  Kylie Stewart is perfection as naive Noelle and Eric Rolon's husky sexy voice will give you chills (of the good kind) portraying the arrogant, rude and manipulative Penn.  Pepper Winters has written another amazing suspense romance and I can't wait to see what comes next for Elle.
