SYNOPSIS:

Devin Mcalister’s bad news—if she doesn’t know it for sure, she feels it. Rachel has known too much tragedy and leaves town for a new life. She’s content but closed to being hurt again.

However, Cassidy and Claire, his 5-year-old identical twins, compel her to get to know them. She sees the sorrow in their eyes that she has in her own and knows these children have suffered.

Rachel is a cake decorator and sometimes works on the baked goods counter—and her homemade cookies can sprinkle sunshine over the saddest little girl. She resists Devin, but it’s futile.

Devin hides his shady underworld business. He has the big house, fast cars and staff on hand. But in his world, somebody’s always out to get him.

It leads to a terrible accident—can she forget his past to have a future?

What is the sub-genre and trope?

Romance

Did your characters lead you to this genre or was that decided before the story began?

I was lead to this genre, having something else in mind at the beginning.

Are you more character or plot driven?

Plot driven.

With many main and secondary characters, how do you keep them separated in your mind?  Do you have a story/vision board above your workspace?

I do not have a vision board, however I like to find a visual picture that I feel resembles my characters with that picture, it helps keep them separated.

I know from previous interviews that characters take on a life of their own.  Were any of the characters in this series determined to take their own direction instead of where you initially wanted them to go?

Yes

Are any of the male POVs based on anyone you know?

Actually, no. 🤣

Are any of the female POVs based on anyone you know?

Yes, a few of them.

Was there any one character/scene that was harder to write about than the other?

The ending.. I had to walk away for a bit.

I know that we aren’t supposed to have “favorites” as far as our children, but seriously, who’s your favorite character and why?

I loved Rachel’s humor, and her independence.

How do you get inside these character’s heads to find their perfect HEA?

I think that’s fairly easy because everyone wants an HEA, at the end of the day… we’ll have to wait and see if that’s what Rachel and Devin get.

What scene in this book/series sticks out the most for you?  Why?

The scene where Devin speaks to the owner of a little shop while on vacation, trying to persuade her to sell something that isn’t for sale.?  Because they connect so deeply, it brought real tears to my eyes. It’s very moving the lengths Devin would go to for Rachel.

This question is if you write in MULTIPLE POVs not just the hero and heroine - I love the multiple POVs in a book.  It’s not just the hero and heroine, but we get inside the heads of multiple characters throughout this series.  I feel that it gives the story further depth.  Do you think you will write another book or series following this multiple POV outline?

yes! I love knowing what all the characters are thinking!

How long did it take you to write this book/series?

About a month, then with tweaks, edits etc six months from start to finish.

How did you come up with the title for your book?

I struggled with the title, then tossed around ideas. A few people had read the rough draft, Rachel, Devin and the twins had such a great time catching fireflies and the significance resonated with me, so it became the title.

If you met these characters in real life would you get along?

Yes, I think we would.

If your book was made into a movie, which actors do you see as playing your characters?

That’s tough!

Can you give us a hint as to what we can expect next?  Whether a new book and series or a sequel to an existing series?  Can you share a small tease?

Hmmm.. we’ll have to wait and see, but the girl characters are witty with sharp tongues and at the top of their game!
