REVIEW - THE GIFT THAT WAS PROMISED by Immortality My Darlin

Unlike many nights, Evangeline slept peacefully until she felt an emptiness within her making her jump awake.  Her hands go immediately to her stomach finding it flat which brings her to sobs until she hears something.  Breathing...someone is with her.  A baby in a bassinet.   How is it possible that she a virgin became pregnant and then gave birth without and pain or marks on her body indicating birth to a child?

Prince Preston wanted to be anywhere except the party where he was now sitting watching the dancers in the ballroom.   Except after this party, he would be crowned king of Genai and as such was expected to carry on the Kingsley line.  His betrothal to Maloni Kavis was to also be announced tonight after he was sworn in.  She wasn't his choice of a mate, but due to her family's ranking and wealth, their fathers agreed to an alliance and the betrothal.

It didn't matter how high your rank you were never free.  The expectations never ended.  His only escape from taking a blade to his throat was women and substance.   It's the only way he gets from one day to the next.

Sadie's mother would be having a fit if she knew that she had strayed from the festivities and was now in the presence of the crowned prince.  When he kissed her it was if two souls had been bound together and then a vision of pain passed between them.  The next thing she knows is being called before the king and told that she was to be married to the new king in two weeks' time.

I absolutely loved this book!  The characters are well developed and the storyline is full of action and intrigue.   I love Sadie's spunk and refusal to bend to the will of Preston.   Despite never being told anything about her birth or circumstances by her mother I think she handles her new circumstances with grace.

Preston was changed dramatically after he met and married Sadie.  His whole life he escaped his father's cruelty with women and drugs, but Sadie's presence made him look at something other than himself and want to make changes to not only himself but help the people he ruled over.

This book is very well written and the storyline is not only interesting it is full of twists and intrigue.  The book does leave you with a cliffhanger and several new twists are unfolding.  I look forward to seeing what happens in book two.
