SYNOPSIS:

Carter Hills Band is a rock star second chances soulmates romance series. One that will play with all your heartstrings, and that you'll want to read in one sitting.

Carter Hills is a country music superstar about to start his solo career now that his band is a memory of the past. He has everything he wants in life—fame, money, and success—but his love life is a disaster. Being at the top has never felt so lonely. The only woman he has ever felt something for doesn’t share his feelings. Sure, she loves him, but as a friend. Yeah, he has been friend-zoned. For good this time. His life changes when a bubbly and colorful woman rents the cabin next door to his for a month.

Will Carter risk opening his heart to her, or has he been hurt too many times already?

The series follows Carter Hills, his ex-bandmates, his manager and the people they love who revolve around them.

All books in the series are interconnected standalone novels, which mean they all take place in the same world (the Carter Hills Band) but each one focuses on one or two specific characters. All books can be read individually and in random order, but I always include a reading order which I think gives the best reading experience. Through the series, the characters come back in many books, so you get to read about the characters you’ll learn to love again.

What is the sub-genre and trope?  Did your characters lead you to this genre or was that decided before the story began?

My characters lead me.

All I knew was that I wanted my series to be centered around a country music star and to take place in both Nashville and the Smoky Mountains.

I write mostly New Adult and mature YA novels.

The main tropes in this series are rock star, second chances, small town, and soulmates.

The second tropes can be grumpy/sunshine, vacations, best friend’s brother.

I try to incorporate real life struggles in my series to make them as realistic as possible, which go from autistic children, to grief, or physical abuse.

Are you more character or plot driven?

I would say characters. Even if sometimes I think there’s a mix of both. But my characters are my main concern. They’re authentic, realistic, and relatable. People you’d want as best friends, or lovers.

With many main and secondary characters, how do you keep them separated in your mind?  Do you have a story/vision board above your workspace?

No. I compartmentalized them in my brain. I also keep a file with their names, hair and eyes colors, and important details.

I know from previous interviews that characters take on a life of their own.  Were any of the characters in this series determined to take their own direction instead of where you initially wanted them to go?

Always. I often feel they’re more in control of their stories than I am. I follow their lead. I believe that’s when the true magic happens.

Are any of the POVs based on anyone you know?

No. But I believe all characters are a part of me or my experiences.

Was there any one character/scene that was harder to write about than the other?

The abuse scene in Hope and Country was a hard one.

The hospital and breakdown scenes in Whiskey and Country played with my heartstrings. It was challenging. I cry a lot of tears when I write and edit my stories. Those characters become so real, a big part of my life, and I live through their pain and struggles.

The worst one was in Princess and Country. We knew from Pink and Country what would happen, and still, just thinking about it breaks my heart.

What is your favorite book in the series? (if applicable)

Pink and Country I would say because it’s my first published book so it will always have a special place in my heart. But I love them all, or I wouldn’t publish them. I have to fall in love with a story first before being able to put it out there.

I know that we aren’t supposed to have “favorites” as far as our children, but seriously, who’s your favorite character and why?

Carter Hills and Dahlia Ellis. I love all my characters, but there’s just something about these two. That’s why they’ve become the pillars of the series.

Pink and Country wasn’t supposed to be part of a series, but I sat in front of my laptop and wrote Dahlia’s story in three days (Princess and Country). I just couldn’t stop. That’s how the series was born.

Series question - Who is your favorite couple and why did you decide on their dynamics?

April and Carter (Pink and Country). Their chemistry, their banter, their steam. It’s so real.

I didn’t really decide their dynamics, it just happened and I went with it because it just fit. And I fell in love with their grumpy / sunshine ways.

How do you get inside these character’s heads to find their perfect HEA?

Again, I don’t really decide, I let the story unfold and see where it will take me. Usually, all the puzzle pieces fit by the end of the book.

What scene in this book/series sticks out the most for you?  Why?

Every few Nick and Derek’s scenes in Whiskey and Country. I can’t tell anything without giving away spoilers, but the book starts with them together, and it’s pretty powerful.

Also, Carter Hills’s breakdown in Pink and Country. Anyone who ever suffered an anxiety attack can relate. It’s heartbreaking and you feel his pain through the pages.

Series - Were any of the books harder to write than others?

Hope and Country and Whiskey and Country because they touch the most sensitive subjects. Domestic abuse and grief in a way that is rarely portrayed.

This question is if you write in MULTIPLE POVs not just the hero and heroine - I love the multiple POVs in a book.  It’s not just the hero and heroine, but we get inside the heads of multiple characters throughout this series.  I feel that it gives the story further depth.  Do you think you will write another book or series following this multiple POV outline?

Yes. I have one in the making. The third POV is not as present as the main characters, but it’s still important to the story.

How long did it take you to write this book/series?

On a good day, I can write 10,000 words if I’m not being distracted. And if inspiration hits and the writing flows, I can write the first draft within three to four weeks.

How did you come up with the title for your book and series?

All my books in this series start with a song, and for Pink and Country, the title is the song. So it just made sense. All books have a title that’s use the surname or name or one of the main characters and the word “country.”

The series name was inspired from the band and main character of the series, Carter Hills.

If you met these characters in real life would you get along?

Absolutely. They’re fun, sassy, smart, and fierce. What not to like, right?

Series question – Did you know in advance that you were going to write this as a series or did one of the characters in book one demand their own story?

No. It happened when Dahlia nagged me to get her story written. That day, the Carter Hills Band series was born.

If your book/series were made into a movie, which actors do you see as playing your characters?

Oh this is a fun question. I would like to see my stories on the screen.

Carter Hills:Jacob Elordi

April Simmons: Chloe Grace Moretz

Dahlia Ellis: Zoey Deutch

Nick Peterson:Joe Alwyn

Riley Burns: Cole Sprouse

Aisha Jones: Zoe Kravitz

Can you give us a hint as to what we can expect next?  Whether a new book and series or a sequel to an existing series?  Can you share a small tease?

Wild and Country and Legend and Country should release within the next six months.

I have four more series I’m working on, including the first book I’ve ever written. I’d like to at least release the first one in each of them in 2023 before releasing the last books in the Carter Hills Band series late 2023 or in 2024.

I've seen darkness. And looked straight into his eyes.
I've lived through darkness. Since I was a little girl.
Violence is my reality. My normal.

His father hit him. Now he hits me. For no reason other than a way to cope with stress. At least that’s the excuse he uses after he teaches me one of his, what he calls it, life lessons.

Now that he has left me for dead, I need to run away. To put as much distance between us as possible. Because this time, even using his powerful connections, he won't find me. I'll make sure of it.

The Music Manager
My safe haven has a face. And even a name. But he has no idea I'm coming. That I need his help. And the safety he can provide me. We met before. Once. Then I vanished into the night without saying goodbye.

A year has gone by since. Will he remember me? Will be the safe place to heal my wounds? Or did I dream the connection we shared that one night on the rooftop bar amongst his wealthy friends?

I'll wait for him. Because I have nowhere else to go, alone and scarred, praying this time, darkness won’t have a foothold on me.

Can I finally let the seeds of hope he planted into my heart that night grow, or should I keep running for my life?
