INTERVIEW with BRANDY GOLDEN

First, I want to say THANK YOU to Brandy Golden for taking the time for this interview!

I first ran across Brandy in her REVENGE series and they were so smoking hot that I have since added more of her books to my TBR list.

BIO:

Brandy Golden is an international bestselling author who has written numerous stories utilizing the domestic power exchange between her hero and heroine. Humor, suspense, mystery, and romance are all in the recipe for gripping stories that grab your heart and won't let go. And when a sexy spanking is thrown in, it's even better!

"Dashing knights, handsome billionaires, sexy cowboys, you name them. I love all those alpha males and the sassy women they fall in love with.

When I'm not working on a story, I'm enjoying being retired in the lovely state of Missouri with my husband, two dogs, and a snarly black cat.

The golden glow of romance is all around us, it's in the air, and our lives reflect it every day. And what's more romantic than a sexy spanking to spice it up? Enjoy the glow, my friends, and spanks to you for reading my stories!"

When and how did you know you wanted to be a writer?

About 20 years ago I decided to start writing seriously. I’ve always been an avid reader, but  when I found books with spankings scenes in them, that’s when I decided I’d love to write what I like best.

Did you have any influencing writers growing up?

All the old Harlequin writers, like Janet Dailey.  I also loved the historical writings of Scotland from Jude Devereux.

Are any of your characters based on people in real life?

Not so much any one character, but many different character traits from people I know.

Where do you draw your book inspirations from?

From the world around me and the people I know and meet.  The worlds I’d like to know and visit.

Do you use have a basic outline when starting a new story or do you let the characters lead the way?

I have a basic setting and the character angst in mind already.  Then I let them tell me their story and sometimes their ending is different than what I’d planned.

When you are picturing the characters in your book, do you have a cheater photo for inspiration?

I do occasionally now, but I didn’t used to.  I find it helps if I can choose a model close to what I imagine.  Its very difficult to have an image in mind and not be able to find it when you want to do your cover or advertisements!  So I lean more that way now.

Many people read as a form of escape and relaxation.   What is your favorite way to sit back and relax?

In my recliner!

Who are your favorite current authors to read?

There are a lot of authors I enjoy reading, spanking and non-spanking fiction both.  I like to try new authors as well, so I wouldn’t want to pick just a few!

What are your favorite books by others?

My favorite books are ones that stand out in my mind long after I’ve read them.  With as many as I read and write, that’s difficult to do!  The storyline lingers long after I’ve forgotten the author who wrote it!

Do the locations in the stories have any meaning to you?

Actually, yes.  A story set in the Highlands, the old west, or a mountain cabin with a growly shut-in are attention getting for me right off the bat.

Do you write in single or multiple POV?

My stories always have multiple POV.

What do you find to be your best research tool?

The internet would be the best one.

Do you write under a pen name?  Also, do you write under more than one name?

I just have one pen name, Brandy Golden

What genre do you write and why is this your preference?

Probably western would be the one I write most, but I like most genres.  I do Scottish romance and some contemporary as well.

Anything  that has spanking in it is always good.  I’m more of a domestic discipline writer, or spanky fun writer.

I like humor, happy ever after endings, and detailed descriptions with a good plotline.

Tell me something about yourself outside of writing.  Jobs, accomplishments, family, quirky traits....what led to you being you?

I’ve had several jobs in my life, the most recent being 15 years as a police dispatcher and records person.

My favorite job is being a wife, mother and grandmother.  I have 5 children and 6 grandchildren and I love taking pictures and scrapbooking.

What advice would you give to an aspiring writer?

Write what you love.

As a writer, it’s always tempting to let money draw you.  But when you write for the money, often times your heart isn’t in what you are writing and it becomes a chore.

So write what you love.  If that happens to coincide with tropes and genres that make good money, then you are fortunate.

I hope you enjoyed this interview!
