REVIEW - A WICKED SEA by Em Brown

WARNING:  This novel contains strong and explicit language, graphic scenes, or other sensitive or taboo content that may be disturbing to some readers.   Menage a trois, BDSM, flogging

The pirate known as La Croix was a woman.  And although her first-mate had a hook where there should have been a hand he was much too handsome to be a pirate.

She first came upon him after he killed her previous first-mate in a duel.  She had been determined to exact her revenge when he suggested becoming her slave instead.  A white man be a black woman's slave...

Despite her treatment of him as her slave, he made her an offer for his release she couldn't pass by.  Unfortunately, she lost his bet and a slave but gained a first-mate instead.

La Croix had many things working against her and any could get her killed or worse.  She was a woman, a black woman, the daughter of a slave, and a pirate captain.  Talk about having to fight for any type of command or respect.

This story is told totally from La Croix's POV.  Although La Croix is definitely the one in control there is no doubt that Harry is an alpha male.  La Croix has no reason to trust men and just like the men used prostitutes with strap ons when they were in port.  But the chemistry and sex with Harry make her break those rules.

I love the characters in this book. Think about a VERY EROTIC version of Pirates of the Caribbean.  The characters are well developed and the storyline is very interesting.

The story is wonderfully written and you can feel the impact of the cannonballs hitting ships.

I highly recommend this book and love Em Brown.
